Rohit Sharma Opens On Current Situation Existing In India:
Indian opener Rohit Sharma in a recent interaction, spoke on various issues including the latest coronavirus lock-down, his day-to-day routine and the future of post-pandemic sport.
When Rohit was questioned how he would feel to play in front of vacant stadiums if IPL was permitted behind closed doors, the Mumbai batsman said he would have to go back to the period when he was growing up and used to play without any spectators watching.
“I hope that everyone is safe and that we obey guidelines so that we can actually get on with what we want to do.
“It’s going to be a little weird to play in the empty stadiums, I don’t know how the fans would take it, thinking as a child, I have to go back a long way and think about how I began to play cricket with nobody watching me, We haven’t had the privilege of playing in these lavish stadiums, I think life’s going to go back to that. Whatever rules the board comes up with, we need to follow that and try and play some form of cricket, People will be able to watch us on television, At least, there is something to look forward to,” said Rohit.
Speculations have also been made about hosting the Indian Premier League in a single city or a couple of them in order to prevent movement and more danger to players during the pandemic. Rohit said we should all wait for the government’s guidance to come to a conclusion on the IPL.
“Once when they open up the stadiums, they open up the places for us to play, only then do we get to know what’s going to be scheduled for. I think less travel and remaining in an region is vital and they will take all the required precautions and measures to stay away from this virus, regardless of the city or country tournaments taking place.
“I’m not really sure how long it will take for it to vanish entirely. All required steps need to be taken. All rules need to be followed. As in an ICC competition, there will be anti-doping guidelines and all that. Similarly, we have to adhere to it.
“In my opinion, there will be guidelines from now on whenever we play, on how to control movements around the hotel, around the city. I don’t think we’ll be able to go out freely if we’re allowed to travel abroad. All the necessary steps will be taken,” Rohit added.
