Moeen Ali signs three-year deal with Warwickshire

Moeen Ali has announced that he is leaving Worcestershire to return to his home county, Warwickshire on a three-year deal.

Moeen, who began his career with Warwickshire, said, “I’m sad to be leaving Worcestershire after so long and have loved every minute of it. I’ve played with some amazing people and owe a huge thanks to the club for bringing me here and giving me the platform to perform.”

The all-rounder joined Worcestershire in September 2006 and was a part of nearly 350 games across all formats, scoring over 13,000 runs, taking over 300 wickets, and winning three trophies in his time at New Road.

After joining Warwickshire, Ali said: “I’m delighted to return home to Edgbaston. I was born and raised just a few miles away from the stadium, with my life always centred around Birmingham.

“When the opportunity presented itself, it was a decision I couldn’t say no to and I believe I have unfinished business at the Bears.

“I’m incredibly excited to be back and to play in front of the best atmosphere in world cricket.

“It’s a place that has so much history and players always have memories and stories of playing here. I’m looking forward to contributing and be part of hopefully something special.”

The veteran all-rounder has last played for Worcestershire on July 03. In that match, the skipper Moeen played a knock of 28 in 19 deliveries and was the second highest scorer for Worcestershire in posting 159 in 20 overs.

He was a regular member of Worcestershire before being called up for the England side.

Head coach Alex Gidman added, “It’s been an absolute pleasure to work alongside Mo in a coach and captain relationship for the last four years. The Vitality Blast victory in 2018 and coming so close to retaining in 2019 will live long in my memory as a memorable part of the early days of my coaching career. It’s extremely sad to see him move on, but we wish him all the best for the future.”

In September last year, Ali took the retirement from test cricket. He will be next seen in the upcoming England versus India limited-over series, starting on July 07.
