BBL: CA Postpones ‘Strikers-Stars’ Fixture Due To COVID Pandemic

The current Big Bash League (BBL) has been clouded by uncertainty as a result of the continuing COVID outbreak. As the most recent developments, Cricket Australia has postponed the match between the Adelaide Strikers and the Melbourne Stars. The game was supposed to take place on Friday, January 7. Here is why Adelaide Strikers And Melbourne Stars Match Postponed.

On Thursday, January 6, a few more fresh cases were confirmed within BBL teams. The Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Renegades are the most recent teams to emerge with positive outcomes. And now, 15 Stars players are likely to be released from isolation today, but there are concerns that they will be mentally and physically prepared to compete in a week of downtime.

Considering this into view, CA decided that continuing the game would be inappropriate. As a result, it was the 3rd match that the management opted to postpone. BBL‘s official Twitter confirmed the news.

“Friday’s KFC Big Bash League Match between Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Stars has been postponed. The Melbourne Stars currently have 13 players in isolation after testing positive for Covid 19. A number of those players are due to exit isolation soon, subject to a negative test”.

“However, for the concern for the health and wellbeing of those players, the League has deemed it unreasonable for them to play a match in the time available after exiting isolation. The League will advise a new date for the match shortly, along with plans to safely execute the remainder of the KFC BBL|11 seasons,” the statement read.

Earlier, the match between the Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers on January 5 was rescheduled when 12 Heat players and a coach tested positive for Covid-19. BBL general manager Alistair Dobson stated in a release that it was not possible for the Heat to field anyone, which is why the decision has been made.

“We acknowledge the wholehearted efforts of the Brisbane Heat to field a team tonight. However, in the time available it was not possible for them to secure the 13 players required, hence the decision to postpone the match,” Dobson had said.
