Mid Season Report Card Of BBL 2021-22

#8 Melbourne Renegades

Melbourne Renegades have been at the bottom of the pile. They have just notched a single win up until this point. The Renegades have looked way out of the depth. They are the only team who have just 5 points from 6 games. Their net run rate is way below the mark [-1.758]. The Renegades need something special to turn their campaign around. If they don’t start winning games consistently, the writing is already on the wall for them.

#7 Adelaide Strikers

The Adelaide Strikers haven’t fared any better than the Renegades. They too just have a solo win under their belt after playing 6 games. But what separates the Strikers from the Renegades is the fact that they have a couple of bonus points. Strikers are currently placed 7th in the table with 7 points. Their net run rate albeit in the negative fares comparatively better than the other teams.

#6 Melbourne Stars

The Melbourne Stars haven’t exactly had the season they would have wished so far. They are at the bottom half of the table with 10 points. The Stars are leveled on points with Brisbane Heat but their net run rate [-1.114] pulls them a spot down.

They have 3 wins as compared to the 2 wins the Heats have but the latter fare better on bonus points. The signing of Andre Russell hasn’t exactly worked magic for them. They need to string a series of big wins on the trot.

#5 Brisbane Heat

The Brisbane Heat occupy the fifth spot in the points table despite winning just 2 games. But what they have done right is to win their games convincingly. They strangely have one win less than the Stars who are placed one spot below them. But the differentiating factor is their bonus points and net run rate [-0.280]. Ben Duckett [213 runs] and James Bazley [11 wickets] have been their standout performers.

#4 Sydney Thunder

Sydney Thunder has a 3-point advantage over the next two teams below them. They are currently placed 4th in the table with 13 points in their kitty. The Thunders have 3 wins and 3 losses from the 6 games they have played up until now. Sam Billings [236 runs] and Brody Couch [10 wickets] have been their standout performers. The Thunders will need to keep hanging in there to secure a playoff spot.

#3 Hobart Hurricanes

Hobart Hurricanes are relatively placed better currently. They are third in the points table currently. Hurricanes have played 7 games winning 4 and losing 3 of them. They have 17 points to show for their efforts.

Ben McDermott has been absolutely sensational for them. He notched up successive hundreds to go on top of the run-scoring charts. McDermott has 353 runs to his name. Tom Rogers [12 wickets] has been their top bowler. He currently occupies the 2nd spot in the bowling charts.

#2 Perth Scorchers

Their unbeaten run finally came to an end. Sydney Thunder’s defeated them to halt their juggernaut. Despite the loss, the Scorchers sit pretty at the 2nd spot with 6 wins from 7 games. They have 21 points to their name at the halfway mark. Colin Munro [268 runs], Mitchell Marsh [255 runs], and Andre Tye [11 wickets] have been their key assets. The Scorchers look all set to play the first qualifier if they sustain the momentum.

#1 Sydney Sixers

Sydney Sixers are the table-toppers at this moment. They are tied on points [21] with the Perth Scorchers. Similar to the Scorchers, they have 6 wins from 7 games. But what takes them to the top is their net run rate [+1.264]. They have looked like a complete team the Sixers. Sean Abbott [12 wickets] and Hayden Kerr [11 wickets] have shared the bowling honours.

Josh Philippe [295 runs] and Moises Henriques [257 runs] have been their batting stars. It will be difficult to dislodge them from the top spot leading into the business end of the tournament.
