#5 England vs Pakistan, Rawalpindi – 2022

The Bazball era was set in motion and it scaled new heights during England’s tour of Pakistan in 2022. In the very first Test in Rawalpindi, England set a template on how they want to go about things. Four of England’s top 5 amassed centuries as England piled up 657 runs in just 101 runs at a run rate of 6.50.

England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett got England off to a rollicking start smashing 100 runs in just 13.4 overs. They went on to replicate the same feat in the third Test in Karachi. This time they brought up the joint-fifth team hundred albeit in the fourth innings.

#4 Bangladesh vs West Indies, Mirpur – 2012

West Indies posted a huge first innings of 527-4 in the Mirpur Test against Bangladesh. The home team in response started off on a blistering note. Tamim Iqbal slammed a 71-ball 72 to turbocharge the innings. Despite losing an early wicket, they continued to attack. They brought up the hundred in just 13.4 overs. Bangladesh went on to post 556 taking a lead of 29 runs. But their second innings failure cost them as they went on to lose the Test.

#3 England vs South Africa, The Oval – 1994

It is the only entry on this list from the previous century. South Africa batted first in the third Test at the Oval in 1994 against England. They scored 332 in the first innings and bowled England out for 304. Devon Malcolm the England seamer then breathed fire in the third innings to dismantle South Africa.

He returned with figures of 9-57 in 16.3 overs to bundle South Africa out for just 175. England chasing 204 brought up their hundred in just 13.3 overs. Graham Gooch (33 off 20 balls) first and Graeme Hick (81 off 81 balls) later combined to bring up this feat!

#2 Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh, Colombo – 2001

The home team Sri Lanka made short work of new Test entrants Bangladesh in this Test in Colombo. Opting to field first, Lanka bowled out Bangladesh for mere 90 runs. It was the manner of their reply though that was spectacular. Sanath Jayasuriya hammered 89 off 56 balls and Mahela Jayawardene stroked a 115-ball 150. They were not even the chief contributor as Marvan Attapattu slammed a solid double hundred. Jayasuriya’s early attack meant Lanka hit 100 in just 13.2 overs!

#1 India vs West Indies, Trinidad – 2023

The points on offer for a win in WTC keep enticing teams to go for an outright win. India in their quest to bag 12 full points against West Indies in Trinidad went for the jugular. Having taken a lead of 183 runs, India was in search of quick runs. Their openers came out all guns blazing to bring up the hundred in just 12.2 overs. Rohit Sharma hit his fastest Test fifty (35 balls) and Yashasvi Jaiswal complimented the attack. India finally broke a long-standing 22-year record in Test cricket!
