In the ongoing South Africa Women’s tour of England, the hosts thrashed the Proteas by a convincing 114 runs in the 2nd ODI in Bristol on Friday. England leads the 3-match ODI series by 2-0.

The series has been dominated by England’s batsmen thus far, and Bristol’s surface looked favorable for scoring runs. The hosts bookended their innings and scored 105 runs in the final 10 overs and 46 in the final five, England had century-stands for the first and third wickets, both the third-highest in their positions.

England had 232 for 2 going into the last 10 overs. There was no stopping Dunkley once she reached her fifty off the 61st ball she faced. She scored her century off 87 balls, taking 16 runs from Ismail’s eighth over to give England a winning total of 337.

In order to chase down a huge total, South Africa had a stronger Powerplay than England and scored 67. Wolvaardt then hit 50 runs off just 41 balls, setting up an epic battle. However, Wolvaardt and Andrie Steyn’s 87-run partnership came to an end when she attempted to clear the infield off Charlie Dean and snared Wong at mid-on.

For the following 51 runs, South Africa lost their next five wickets, including three to Wong. She got Tryon behind the stumps, Nadine de Klerk at short cover, and Lara Goodall at mid-on. Wong did well with the short ball that failed South Africa.

Kapp scored 50 off of 46 balls although she had little help on the other end. She was out for 73 as South Africa approached the last 10 overs on 223 for 8, just nine runs behind England at that point but also six wickets down and with little hope of even batting out their overs. In 41 overs, they were all out bowled winning the match by a huge margin of 114 runs.

The Player of the Match award was given to Sophia Dunkley of England for scoring her maiden century, 107 (93). The teams will play the 3rd ODI on Monday at Leicester.
