It was a low-scoring yet exciting battle between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians in the 59th match of the Indian Premier League 2022. The reigning champions were defeated by the five-time champions by a margin of five wickets. On the other hand, it is reasonable to observe that both of the successful IPL franchises are not performing up to the standard in the current season and in the most recent match, which both resulted in a low score with a dissatisfied lineup.
Despite winning the toss, MI opted for CSK to bat first. CSK got off to a bad start in the innings, as the initial batting order was demolished in a short time. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Moeen Ali, Robin Uthappa, and Ambati Rayudu from the CSK batting order all departed cheaply, failing to even reach double figures and struggled to form small partnerships.
MS Dhoni was the only CSK hitter to get a respectable score, with 36(33). With minor assistance from the batting lineup that followed, they were only able to score 97 runs. However, for MI Daniel Sams’ three-wicket haul, Riley Meredith, Kumar Kartikeya’s two-wickets each, and Bumrah, Ramandeep Singh’s one-wicket constituted a potent bowling outfit for the team to limit runs, to have a solid bowling unit dominance.

In the chase of the low score, Ishan Kishan, MI’s opening batsman, was out for only 6 runs as he was picked behind the stumps by Dhoni during Mukesh Choudhary’s session. This was a rough start for MI as they attempted to chase down the low score, and they also had a poor start collectively. On the other hand, the team’s captain, Rohit Sharma, was expected to make a significant contribution to the chase; however, he only provided 18 runs off of 14 balls in Simarjeet Singh’s spell.
Tilak Varma maintained his composure in the middle and made a significant contribution to the scoreboard by reaching 34 runs off of 32 balls, undefeated. The contribution of 23 balls and 18 runs made by Hrithik Shokeen made the equation considerably simpler. Tim David kept the momentum going with an unbeaten quickfire stroke that added 7 balls and 16 runs while hitting two sixes, which ultimately led to the victory. Over this, MI was able to wipe out CSK and eliminate them from contention for the playoffs in only 14.5 overs by taking 5 wickets.
