On Thursday, it was announced that Arjun Tendulkar would represent Goa in the domestic season 2022–23. (August 11). The lanky left-arm pacer, who has been participating in Goa’s training sessions, is on track to become the state’s first professional signing of the coming campaign. Arjun Tendulkar, the renowned Sachin Tendulkar‘s son, has played a few T20 matches for Mumbai.
Tendulkar confirmed the intended swap, he said, “Getting maximum game time on the ground is important for Arjun at this juncture of his career. We believe that the shift will improve the probability of Arjun featuring in more competitive matches. He is embarking on a new phase of his cricketing career.”
Suraj Lotilkar, the head of the Goa Cricket Association, stated that the state squad desired a left-arm bowler, “We are in need of a left-arm pacer and Arjun has showed interest. We generally recruit professionals and if he suits our team’s requirements he will be picked. It is up to our selectors.”
Arjun (22) played for the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team during the league stages of the previous season but was unable to go to the elimination rounds. The youngster was never able to make it to the XI, though, due to the high calibre of talent in Mumbai.
Tendulkar has been included on Mumbai’s probables list for the white-ball portion of the domestic season. Tendulkar played two unofficial Tests for the India Under-19s against the Sri Lanka Under-19s three summers ago.
He most recently participated in T20 matches in England as a member of the Mumbai Indians’ development team. Dewald Brevis and Kumar Kartikeya, among others, were also a part of the team that competed against English club teams.
The biggest letdown for Arjun, though, is apparently that he was cut from the Mumbai team this season without having the opportunity to demonstrate his talent.
This year’s domestic season begins on September 8, but the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which runs from October 11 to 22, will be the genuine interstate tournament that can give Arjun a chance (league stage). December 13 marks the start of the Ranji season. With one tie and two losses, Goa placed fourth in Elite Group D of the Ranji Trophy the previous year.
