In the 18th match of Women’s Big Bash League(WBBL), Brisbane Heat beats Sydney Thunder by just 3 runs. The rain affected game put ST on back foot. Sydney batting first had scored 139 for 7 in their 20 overs. Brisbane only needed 20 runs off 16 balls when rain stopped play.

Batting first, Sydney Thunder had a decent start. Their opener Phoebe Litchfield scored a 50 off 38 balls to build the innings. She had support by Amy Jones who scored 24 off 21 balls. She was replaced by captain Haynes who scored 38 runs before getting out. Even after getting a good start Thunders could not capitalise on that. They went on to score very few runs in the later stage. None of the batters scored in double digits after Haynes.

It was a great team effort by Heat’s bowling unit. They bowled at right length and line to dismiss Thunder’s lower order for meager runs. Jonasen and Hancock took 2 wickets. While Knott and Kerr took 1 wickets each.

Brisbane Heat Chase

In their way to chase 140, Brisbane did not look in difficult position at any point. Their openers gave them a good start. Georgia Redmayne and Danielle Wyatt scored 33 and 18 runs respectively. Harris, Voll and Laura though were dismissed in quick succession but that did not affect their chase. From the lower order Kerr and Knott showed allround performance with bat after performing with the ball. They were on 22 and 20 before rain stopped play.

With the ball, Lea Tahuhu continues her great performance. She has dominated in the league so far. In today’s match she took 3 wickets. Sammy-Jo Johnson and Larry Smith took 1 wicket each.

Brisbane Heat were 20 runs short of their target when rain halted the game. They had to score runs in 16 balls. After much wait, and based on DLS method, Brisbane Heat were declared winners by 3 runs.
