Shakib Al Hasan Returns As Bangladesh Announce Squad For Sri Lanka Test

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has included fast bowler Shoriful Islam and Shakib Al Hasan to its 16-man lineup for the opening Test versus Sri Lanka. It should be emphasized that the BCB had announced that Islam will not be available for perhaps the first Test due to an injury sustained during the South Africa series, however, the board is now optimistic about the pacer’s recovery. We have mentioned about Bangladesh Squad For the Sri Lanka Test in the below article.

Furthermore, experienced Shakib Al Hasan, who dropped from the Test series in South Africa and went home just after ODIs owing to family responsibilities, is likely to participate in the game’s longest format after a lengthy break. The left-handed hitter was also unable absent to play in the Test series in South Africa & New Zealand.

“He (Shoriful) will have his surgery (for the non-cricketing injury) and it will take eight to 10 days to recover. We are expecting to send him on 25 or 26 and even if he does the operation after two days we are expecting him to be fit by May 10 if that is the case and he passes the fitness Test he will be in the squad for the Sri Lanka series and that is the reason we have kept him as available subject to injury,” BCB cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus.

“We have kept Abu Jayed in the practice game. He is lacking a bit of pace and so we have not included him for the Test series but we are hopeful that he will make a comeback sooner than later by removing all his shortcomings,” said BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin

Fast bowler Abu Jayed Rahi and batsman Shadman Islam were excluded from the team by the selection panel. Furthermore, Rejaur Rahman, an uncapped speedster, has been added to the squad. In the same vein, veteran players notably Mehidy Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim had minor injuries while performing in the Dhaka Premier League.

During defending in the deep, the senior hitter injured his left ankle, while Mehidy injured his index finger whereas attempting a catch. Rahim had ice therapy, and Mehidy was sent to a hospital. Both, though, are likely to be recovered on the scheduled time.

Notably, Bangladesh will play the visitors in a 2-match Test series beginning on May 15. Whereas the first contest will be held at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, the 2nd Test will begin on May 23 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

Bangladesh Test Squad: Mominul Haque (C), Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Najmul Hossain, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Litton as, Yasir Ali Chowdhury, Taijul Islam, Mehidy Hasan, Ebadot Hossain, Syed Khaled Ahmed, Nurul Hasan, Rejaur Rahman Raja, Shohidul Islam, Shoriful Islam (subject to fitness)
