Super Giants won by 36 runs

The 37th match of Indian Premier League 2022 had much excitement following through as Mumbai Indians, playing on their home ground strived to win their first match but only failed. Even after stopping their rivals, Lucknow Super Giants for a much chaseable score of 168, Mumbai batting lineup collapsed and how. Credits to LSG’s bowlers who took back-to-back wickets and did not let any batters settle and build a partnership. Krunal Pandya took 3 wickets while all bowlers besides Chameera took at least one wicket. Special credits to KL Rahul for batting magnificently and scoring his 2nd century of the tournament. Mumbai lost their 8th match in a row which is their worst ever outing in any IPL as Lucknow Giants thrashed them by 36 runs.

The losing captain Rohit Sharma, in post-match presentation talked about what was wrong with the team, as he said, “I thought we bowled pretty okay. It was a good pitch to bat on but we didn’t bat well enough. We should have chased that down. When you have a target like that, you need those partnership, which we couldn’t do. Some irresponsible shots including mine. They bowled well in the middle. We haven’t batted well in the tournament. You have to ensure one of the batter bats long but we have failed to do that in this tournament. Some of the opposition players have done that and that has hurt us. [On if Tim David’s name was discussed] Looking at how the tournament has gone every has come into the discussion. We want to make sure whoever gets a chance, they get a run in the XI. So we try not to make too many changes. Whoever plays should get enough opportunities, that’s how I look at it.”

The winning captain and player of the match KL Rahul looked jubilant receiving the award and talked about his team’s performance as he said “I have to make up for the slow over-rate fines. I tried to stay in the moment and see what’s expected from me. Fingers crossed I can carry on doing the same thing. We do back deep with Holder walking in at No. 8 and he has hardly batted. When you have that depth, you can play freely and take more chances. Think that’s the only reason [behind a higher strike rate this season]. I think the teams that can defend well, can bowl well in the powerplay and the death, are the teams that sit at the top and win tournaments. We were lucky enough to get some of the finest allrounders, having them in the team I have options in the middle, and that makes my life easier.”
