Australia Open To Hosting Tri-series With India, Pakistan: CA Chief

Following Pakistan Cricket Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja’s intention of introducing an elevated series with arch-rivals India, Australian Cricket Board (Cricket Australia) CA chief Nick Hockley has stated that the defending world champions would have been interested in hosting the arch-rivals for a triangular series.

Although Pakistan broke India’s unbeaten streak in the 2021 T20 World Cup, Aaron Finch’s Australian team upset the Asian rivals in the semi-finals to claim the prestigious title for the 1st time in Dubai.

In an International Cricket Council (ICC) gathering, PCB head Raja promised to suggest a quadrangular series involving the traditional Asian opponents and Ashes counterparts (Australia and England). India and Pakistan are the Asian arch-rivals that only face one another in ICC and ACC (Asian Cricket Council) events.

I really like the tri-series concept: Cricket Australia CEO Hockley

In response to the possibility of bringing back the Indo-Pak relationship by playing the previous world champions in Australia, Cricket Australia CEO Hockley stated that Pakistan supreme cricket authority would be “very open to hosting” the match involving India, Australia, and Pakistan.

“Personally, I really like the tri-series concept. It’s worked well in the past,” he told reporters in Rawalpindi, where Australia and Pakistan drew the first test in their three-match series. We’d be very open to hosting matches,” Hockley.

A series of this kind is doubtful to emerge in the coming years, as the Future Tour Programme and the ICC’s cricket calendar are being prepared until 2023. “There are really big communities of both India and Pakistan living in Australia. It’s a contest that everyone wants to see in world cricket and if we can help support further opportunities we would love to do that,” Hockley added.

The last bilateral series between India and Pakistan was in 2012. Where  Team India hosted Pakistan for a limited-over series. Despite Australia’s Hockley’s wish to welcome the Asian nations at home, owing to the ICC’s busy international calendar, a triangular series featuring the cricketing heavyweights is usually unpredictable this year.

The ICC T20 World Cup will hold Pakistan and India against one other in October. Australia, the defending title holders, will stage the ICC World T20 in 2022. The tickets to the event for India’s World Cup match against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) were sold out within minutes.
