Raiees Ahmadzai Was Former Afghanistan Captain:
Raiees Ahmadzai, former Afghanistan captain, was appointed Cricket Director to replace Andy Moles, who served as Cricket Director and Chief Electoral Officer. Ahmadzai played five ODIs and eight T20Is for Afghanistan and, after his retirement, worked in a variety of coaching roles, including as head coach of the U-19 Afghanistan team.
“The aim of the appointment is to improve the technical aspect of the game for the national team, to build the ability of the players and to establish and enforce plans and policies for the training and development of the players. Mr. Ahmadzai is an experienced national coach who has previously worked in various technical roles at ACB, including his role as head coach of the U19 Afghanistan team, “the ACB said in a statement.
“I am aware of developments [my removal],” Moles said to a leading sports website. Former cricketer from Warwickshire was appointed Cricket Director and Chief Electoral Officer in October last year, having previously served as side coach from 2014 to 2015. He was also acting head coach when Phil Simmons stepped down after the 2019 World Cup.
In April of this year, 59-year-old Moles had to undergo emergency surgery in Cape Town to amputate his left leg below the knee, after a doctor noticed that it could lead to septicemia. He had been in contact with the national team to track their training cycle remotely.
