Since India played the first international match, it’s been 88 years. During this long journey, India has been part of 1655 international matches in all formats. They have provided a lot of unforgettable moments to the world of cricket, starting from the first team to win the World Cup in home soil to having maximum prolific run-scorer of all formats, Sachin Tendulkar.
But the team also has some worst records which the fans of Indian cricket will not be proud of. Among those, here I have listed 5, which put a bad impression on the Indian cricketing fraternity.

1) Maximum losses in ODI format – 423 times
Since the 2015 World Cup, Indian cricket has been one of the most successful teams of ODIs as they have a winning rate of 70%. They made history by winning bilateral series against many countries like South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, etc.
But this can’t mask the past failures of Indian cricket completely. The Men in Blue has lost maximum times in ODI history, particularly 423 times in 987 appearances. Their current loss to New Zealand played a crucial role in worsening the bad record.
2) 1952- First team to be dismissed completely twice on the same day of a Test match
Despite the embarrassing test series defeat of India in their New Zealand tour, India is leading in the list of the red-ball arena with 360 points. Virat Kohli led team India won the Test championship for the three successive years.
Some years ago, the Indian team had created a record of dismissing the Afghanistan team two times on the same day in a Test match. But very few people know that the Indian team also faced the same situation previously.
In the year 1952, when India was playing against England in Manchester, the whole team was collapsed twice on the third day of the Test match and became the first team, who was dismissed in this humiliating manner. At that time, Vijay Hazare led the team and could manage to score only 140 runs in both the innings. The interesting fact is that in 58 overs, they lost 20 wickets.
3) Maximum 350 plus totals conceded in ODI cricket – 12
Now, the Indian team is piling in the record-breaking 350 plus totals regularly. In the last 10 years, they have reached 29 times. But India also has been in the receiving end also maximum times where the other team gave them a terrible record.
Unfortunately, India is the team against whom the most numbers of 350+ totals have been scored-12 times. So, it will not be wrong to say that the batting strength of the team has been masking one of their flaws in ODI cricket.
4) Maximum numbers of extras in a Test inning – 76
Every single match of India-Pakistan is worth remembering. The test match held in Banglore is memorable for every Indian. After 27 years, India won the test series against Pakistan in home soil in a 3-match series.
But the team of India also registered a neglectful record in the same test match. In the first innings, the bowlers of India gave 76 extra including 15 no-balls. It is the maximum run a team has ever given to another team in the form of extras in a single inning of a test match.
5) Maximum numbers of fours conceded in a T20I inning – 29
After the tremendous winning of the T20 World Cup in the year 2007, the fans of Indian cricket have accepted this format of the game. The love for this type of game for the shortest format is that irrespective of the teams, they cheer for the quality T20 games. That’s why now tournaments like IPL is gaining most popularity across the whole country.
But the excitement level is different when two good international teams play a T20I match. The same situation occurred when Sri Lanka came to India for a two-match series in 2009. It was a memorable game as both the teams were packed with match-winners.
India had Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag and Sri Lanka had Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara in their line-up.
All the fans expected a fantastic game but unfortunately, India lost the match. More importantly, the Indian team also created their worst T20I record by conceding 29 fours, which is the highest in a T20I inning. We can say that on that match, the bowling unit of India missed the mark by a long way.
