5 Players Who Played Single IPL Game And Then Vanished

Even as some players get profitable deals, some have to go back empty-handed. In these years, destiny also denied helping on a couple of players, who unsuccessful to make it big even after acquiring the contracts. In fact, the players didn’t even get a second chance to play in the tournament.

1. Rasikh Salam

In the 2019 edition IPL, the Jammu & Kashmir fast bowler, Rasikh Salam, was selected to play for the Mumbai Indians (MI). The bowler was all set to rub his shoulders with players like Jasprit Bumrah and  Lasith Malinga, two of the squad’s important speedsters.

The 19-year-old got an opportunity in Mumbai Indian’s very first match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. But the Young speedster concluded his golden chance by providing 42 runs without making a breakthrough in his four overs.

He also bowled a number of no-balls, giving the Delhi Capitals’ batsmen free-hits. After that, Rasikh Salam didn’t get another chance to play. BCCI also suspended him for the next two years after he gave a flawed birth certificate to the cricket board.

2. Akila Dananjaya

Akila Dananjaya played a fantastic inning in one of the ODIs in Sri Lanka. By seeing his performance, Mumbai Indians bought him for INR 50 lakhs. Like Salam, Dananjaya also made his first match against the Delhi Capitals, then in the 2018 edition, he played against Daredevils.

The spinner concluded his career in IPL having a tough time.  In his debut match, at the Wankhede Stadium, Akila gave 47 runs in four overs and the Delhi Capitals won by seven wickets off the final delivery. Rishabh Pant and  Jason Roy gave him absolute hiding.

It was the single Dananjaya’s match in the IPL tournament. In addition to that, the 26-year-old had to face problems with his bowling activities. In international cricket, he was banned from bowling because of some suspect actions.

3. Mashrafe Mortaza

For Bangladesh, Mashrafe Mortaza appeared as a motivational leader. After leading the Bangladesh team to many success, the fast bowler got his first opportunity to get into the IPL in 2009. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) brought him. But, his career in the cash-rich tournament was cut short after a single game where Rohit Sharma laid into him.

Mashrafe Mortaza’s only encounter happened in Johannesburg against the Deccan Chargers. In that game, Mortaza gave 58 runs in his four overs at the Wanderers. In the last over, the Knight Riders needing to defend 21 runs and the Narail Express got the chance to bowl.

He initiated his over with a no-ball that went for a four and gave 26 runs. Although he couldn’t prolong his IPL journey, Mashrafe  Mortaza brought in self-confidence for the Bangladesh team at the international level.

4. Darren Bravo

In the 2017 edition of IPL, Darren Bravo, the smart left-hander of West Indies was a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders. In his debut match, he played against the Rising Pune Supergiant.

But Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir’s tremendous 158 runs made sure that Darren Bravo didn’t have much to do in the game. When KKR needed five runs, then he came to bat. On the Shardul Thakur’s delivery, he hit a boundary and put the curtains down on the game.

After that, it was surprised for everyone that why Bravo didn’t play a single game. Although he registered for the IPL auction, he hasn’t got any buyer.

5. Ray Price

During his time, Ray Price was one of the most excellent bowlers of Zimbabwe. He was very tough to deal with his balls. In the 2011 edition, Mumbai Indians gave him a chance.

He played his debut match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) but unluckily he concluded having a tough time. In that match, he gave 33 runs without any wicket in three overs. It was the last match for the left-arm spinner.
