5 Indian Cricketing Records That Are Unbreakable

It is an often-heard cliche that records are meant to be broken. But there are certain 5 Indian cricket records that stand the test of time. It is anyone’s guess that Muttiah Muralitharan’s record of 800 Test wickets is insurmountable.

Indian cricketers are arguably the most popular across the globe. They are the most sought-after bunch of players in world cricket. their feats in recent history dominate the record books. They have notched up such records that it seems humanly impossible to overcome them.

We look at 5 such records held by Indian cricketers that are unbreakable:

#5 Rohit Sharma’s 264

It took almost 40 years for a batsman to score a double hundred in an ODI. There have been multiple instances since when a batsman has breached the mark. Rohit Sharma alone has smashed 3 double centuries. He first scored a double hundred in 2013, his last one in 2017. But his second double hundred stands out like an epic. In a game against Sri Lanka in 2014, Sharma went berserk. He smashed 264 off 173 balls. This is one record that looks impregnable.

#4 MS Dhoni’s stumpings

It is part of folklore that MS Dhoni had the fastest hands in the modern game. He was lightning quick behind the stumps. Dhoni playing in the subcontinent largely got to keep most of the overs to spin bowlers. The spinners were of such quality that enabled him to outsmart the batsmen.

MS Dhoni affected a total of 195 stumping in international cricket. It comprises 38 stumping in Tests, 34 in T20Is, and 123 in ODIs. Kumar Sangakkara (retired) is a distant second with 139 stumpings.

#3 Bapu Nadkarni’s 21 consecutive maidens in a Test innings

In the world of baseball, it is difficult to imagine two consecutive maidens on a trot. But in the bygone era, India’s Bapu Nadkarni created a record that stands tall even now. It looks almost impossible that anyone would break Nadkarni’s record. He once bowled 21 consecutive maidens in a Test inning. His overall figures read 32 overs for 5 runs bowling 27 maidens!

#2 Most number of balls faced in Test cricket

He was arguably India’s finest batsman in Test cricket. Popularly known as, ’The Wall’ and ‘Mr. Dependable’, Rahul Dravid was defense personified. He braved many bowling attacks to hold the fort for his country. In the process, he ended up facing 31,258 deliveries. No other batsman has even hit the 30,000 balls mark in Test cricket. In the age of the T20 revolution, this record is there for Rahul Dravid to keep.

#1 Sachin Tendulkar’s perfect 100!

This is one record that can be safely counted as one that would never be broken. In March 2012, Sachin Tendulkar hit the magic century, centuries of the century! Tendulkar is the only batsman to hit 100 centuries in international. The closest to him in contemporary cricket is Virat Kohli with 70 centuries. There can come no batsman who can claim to even come close to Tendulkar’s record! It is certainly a record for the ages.
