BCCI Not Planning To Lower Players’ Salaries Amid Corona Crisis

We Haven’t Given It A Thought: BCCI Source

The world of sports, including cricket, has suffered massive damage due to the corona health-crisis. All the tournaments have canceled, which has resulted in cutting off the revenues of the boards.

Amid the talk of the financial impact of the corona outbreak, there are reports that the cricket bodies might opt for pay cuts of players. A few days back, there was news that English players might face cuts in their salaries.

However, the Indian cricket body Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is not planning to reduce the salaries of players in the wake of the corona crisis. Such a thing is not even thought by the board, as told by a source from BCCI.

The official said, “We have not thought about it; this is not even in our minds as of now.” The source also said that the decision on the India Premier League (IPL), which has postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, will be taken only when the situation improves.

“There is no clarity as of now when the situation improves, only then we can take a call. When the picture is so hazy, how can we make a call? Suppose we decide now, but the situation is not clear by April 15th, then what will happen?” the source added.

“Decision On Foreign Players After The Situation Improves”

About the foreign players” participation in the mega event, he said,” Until and unless we are clear on visa restrictions, there could be wise country restrictions as well. So, we do not know what the situation will be, as of now, the situation is so hazy, so there is no point in thinking about anything.”

Asked if the IPL will get a separate window, the source replied, “When asked if the IPL will get a separate window, the source said: See if we had discussed some permutation or combination last time when we had met with franchises, but this depends on the window we finally get. If there is some window available, then only we can take a call. Right now, the entire country should just focus on when the situation improves.”
