Master Blaster’s Top Five Bowling Records Of His Career

Sachin Tendulkar’s records are widely spoken in International cricket regarding his batting performances, leaving underestimated about his bowling ability. Sachin was far from being a true all-rounder but one of a kind was his bowling talent. He provided several crucial spells and achieved many landmark victories for the team. Here Are Some Bowling Records Of Sachin Tendulkar.

Ironically, in the ODI format, Tendulkar has more 5-wicket hauls than Shane Warne, Courtney Walsh, Imran Khan, Malcolm Marshall, Kapil Dev, Zaheer Khan, and others.

Bowling Records Of Sachin Tendulkar:

1. First Record:

Tendulkar, so far, is the only player to defend six or less runs more than once in the 50th over of an ODI.

This feat was first accomplished by Sachin during the semi-finals of the 1993 Hero Cup against South Africa.

Interestingly, up to the final over, Tendulkar hadn’t bowled in that match. He only allowed three runs to see India through to the final.

The Indian team had been in a similar position in the game against Australia during the 1996 Titan Cup. This time the Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar took over the task of bowling the final over, Australia lost the last wicket on the very first ball of 50thover and lost the game by 5 runs.

2. Second Record:

During the Wills Trophy, India took on West Indies at the Sharjah ground. After being put in bat, West Indies were 39/1 before Sachin Tendulkar stepped up with ball. The then 18-year-old took 4/34 to bundle out the Caribbean team to 145 in his 10 overs. Thus Sachin became the youngest Indian in ODI cricket with a 4-wicket haul, as he was just 18 years and 181 days old. He was, in fact, the 2nd youngest player until 2001 to claim an ODI 4-fer but is currently 10th on that list.

3. Third Record:

The 5-wicket hauls of Sachin Tendulkar in the ODI format have an interesting coincidence as both of them came at Nehru Stadium in Kochi in the first two days of April.

Tendulkar claimed the maiden 5-wicket haul during the opening match against Australia in the 1998 Pepsi Triangular Series with figures of 10-1-32-5.

Sachin’s next 5-fer came against Pakistan during the first game of the 6-match ODI series, he ran through the visiting team’s line-up with figures of 10-1-50-5.

Thus Sachin Tendulkar became the first Indian with multiple 5-wicket hauls in ODI cricket at the same venue.

Sachin still stands as the only player with this feat.

4. Fourth Record:

In the ODI format, which includes his two 5-wicket hauls in Kochi, Sachin Tendulkar has bagged as many as six 4-wicket hauls. All those six 4-fers came in during ODIs hosted in Asia. In 1998 and 2004, Sachin took two 4-fers against Australia and Bangladesh at the Dhaka Bangabandhu Stadium, respectively. His two other 4-wicket hauls came in this format at Sharjah and Faridabad.

His six 4-wicket hauls are the most in the matches played in Asia by an Indian spin bowler in ODI format.

Sachin Tendulkar’s six 4-wicket hauls put him on No.3 by an Indian spin bowler in ODI cricket on the list of most 4-fers. Kumble tops the list with ten 4-fers, five of which came from Asia and five from outside the Asian continent.

5. Fifth Record:

In Test cricket Sachin Tendulkar picked up wickets when he was a teenager and even after turning 40 years. He is the only player in the history of Test cricket to have accomplished this feat of taking wickets in teens and in the 40s as well.

Interestingly, in his Test career, Tendulkar only picked 46 wickets which lasted as many as 200 matches. Before turning 20, Sachin just took four wickets, all those wickets came during his overseas tours. Sachin’s first four victims in Test cricket were Merve Hughes, Allan Border, Mark Taylor and Andrew Hudson.

The final wicket of Sachin Tendulkar in this format was of Shane Shillingford during his farewell series in the Kolkata Test against West Indies.
