IPL Ad 2012: Top 5 Funny Old IPL Ads You Might Have Missed

#5 Manoranjan ka Baap (2008)

The TVC ‘Manoranjan ka Baap’ narrated a story of a family comprising a mother and her twin sons named Mano and Ranjan. They were constantly victimized and were subjected to taunts by the entire village. ‘Kab aayega tumhara baap?’ (When will your father arrive?). It further elaborates that after being fed up with the constant brickbats, the mother decides to end her life.

But just like a true blue Bollywood story, her children stop her just in time by screaming that their father has finally arrived. The last portion of the ad was such that the children dance and kiss the TV set with a voiceover announcing ‘Aa Gaya, Manoranjan ka Baap. The first ad campaign for the IPL commercials ‘Manoranjan Ka Baap’ showed that all is possible when it comes to creating an ad campaign.

#4 Bharat Bandh (2011)

The theme for the fourth season of the IPL focused on how the entire country is attached to cricket. It stated how the country comes to a standstill when the match is being played. This campaign was an instant hit. The theme brilliantly resonated with people across ages.

#3 Aisa Mauka Aur Kahan Milega (IPL Ad 2012)

The campaign “Aisa Mauka Aur Kahan Milega” was a compilation of 4 short films that eventually led to a grand opening film. The films described how the IPL gives a “mauka’ (chance) for families to get together to watch IPL, or for friends to bunk work and enjoy a match and for kids to use it as an excuse to stay up late to watch the matches. This ad campaign was relatable and received a fantastic response.

#4 Come on bulawa aaya hai (2014)

This campaign was again a 4 short film part promotional video. The 3 short films depicted how IPL helps people stuck in different scenarios to overcome their troubles. The fourth film was like a snapshot of all the three advertisements as it invited people to stop all their work and come to enjoy the game with all their heart.

#5 India ka Tyohar (2015)

The campaign focused on how the nation celebrates when the cricket fever grips them. It also showcased that while watching cricket, people tend to forget all the boundaries of caste, creed and religion. ‘Dooriyan chhod ke, Dekho dil jodh ke’, this line sums up the emotion perfectly.
