India’s bowling has become their stronger suit in the last few years. It used to be their weaker suit earlier. The bowlers have quite often taken a hammering on flat wickets. Indian bowlers have found containing runs difficult on a few occasions in ODIs. This reflects in their figures as they ended up conceding most runs in an ODI spell.

#10 Ishant Sharma – 86 runs
He is on the cusp of retirement but Ishant Sharma’s international white ball career came to a premature end in 2013. On a flat wicket in Rajkot, Sharma conceded 86 runs off his full quota of 10 overs. He failed to pick up a wicket but ironically bowled two maiden overs.
#9 Thiru Kumaran – 86 runs
Pakistan took a special liking to Thiru Kumaran in an Asia Cup game in 2000. The seamer then found it difficult to make a comeback into the Indian side. He conceded 86 runs off his 10 overs in a game where Sachin Tendulkar conceded just 43 runs off his 10!
#8 Shardul Thakur – 87 runs
It was Shardul Thakur who bowled India back into the game with an incisive new ball spell. But Tom Latham took Thakur to the cleaners in his second spell. Thakur couldn’t stop the flow of runs post this. His figures in the game read 87-1 in 9.1 overs.
#7 Javagal Srinath – 87 runs
The legendary fast bowler had his worst ODI game in the biggest game of his ODI career. Javagal Srinath ended up conceding 87 runs off his 10 overs against Australia in the 2003 World Cup final in Wanderers, Johannesburg. Among the 55 worst-expensive ODI figures for Indian bowlers, Srinath has just this one entry on the list.
#6 Yuzvendra Chahal – 88 runs
It was arguably this game that saw India’s well-oiled plans put to the spanners. England attacked India’s wrist spinners leading Yuzvendra Chahal to concede 88 runs in his 10 overs.
#5 Zaheer Khan – 88 runs
He remains India’s finest left-arm seamer. But Zaheer Khan too had quite a few ordinary days with the ball in ODIs. He went for 88 runs in an ODI against Sri Lanka in Rajkot in 2009. The venue notoriously features twice on this list.
#4 Yuzvendra Chahal – 89 runs
It was a high-scoring series with Australian batters taking a heavy toll on Indian bowlers. Yuzvendra Chahal had no answers to the onslaught as he leaked 89 runs off his 10 overs in Sydney.
#3 Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 92 runs
It was another high-scoring game that saw over 660 runs being scored in a single game. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was taken to the cleaners in Kanpur in 2017. He gave away 92 runs picking 1 wicket in his spell. If not for Jasprit Bumrah’s 3-47, India would have lost the game.
#2 Vinay Kumar – 102 runs
The pint-sized ground of Bengaluru came to haunt the bowlers from both sides on this day. Rohit Sharma powered India to 383 with his maiden double-hundred. Australia notched up 326 runs in response. Vinay Kumar was the one who was singled out for special treatment. He conceded 102 runs in just 9 overs at an economy rate of 11.33!
#1 Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 106 runs
It is quite an unwanted record that Bhuvneshwar Kumar holds. He occupies two among the first three spots for conceding the most runs in an ODI inning. On a flat wicket in Wankhede, Kumar was smashed to all corners of the park. He ended up conceding 106 runs in 10 overs while picking a solitary wicket.
