In fact, they were the first team to pick a player in the 2022 mega auction. There were few bidding wars that stole the show. Here in this article, we have discussed IPL 2022 5 Intense Bidding Wars in Mega Auction.

We Look At IPL 2022: 5 Intense Bidding Wars For The Mega Auction:

#5 Jofra Archer (MI)

Jofra Archer won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in IPL 2020. He singlehandedly carried the hopes of Rajasthan Royals on his shoulders. Archer is one of the most explosive players in world cricket. He is a game-changer with both bat and the ball. He is set to miss the entire year owing to an elbow injury. But MI and RR both kept going for him. RR opted out of the race at INR 6.25 crores. SRH joined the bidding war. But MI was quite determined to buy Archer at any cost. They ended up winning the bid at INR 8 crores.

#4 Avesh Khan (LSG)

Avesh Khan was sensational in IPL 2021. He had the knack of prizing out big wickets. Khan proved to be a handful against the likes of Hardik Pandya and Virat Kohli. He excelled both with the new ball and at the death. His sheer pace, accuracy, and aggression made everyone take notice of him. He was expected to surprise with the money he will end up fetching in the mega auctions. Khan eventually did when LSG prized him for INR 10 crores. They outbid CSK, DC, and SRH to buy Khan.

#3 Harshal Patel (RCB)

Harshal Patel was RCB’s standout player in IPL 2021. RCB had traded Patel from Delhi ahead of the 2021 season. He ended up with the purple cap equaling Dwayne Bravo’s league record of 32 wickets in a season. Patel was one of the most sought after bowlers in the auction. Teams staged a bidding war for Harshal Patel.

RCB managed to fight off stiff competition with CSK as they paid INR 10.75 crores to buy him back. Patel who’s IPL contract last year was a mealy INR 20 lacs, he went on to record the highest year-on-year percentage growth.

#2 Deepak Chahar (CSK)

Deepak Chahar swings the new ball and makes early inroads. He is a handy lower order batsmen too. His all-round prowess was always going to work in his favor big time in the mega auction. SRH, DC, and RR were involved in a 3-way race up until his price reached INR 10 crores. CSK then entered the contested forcing DC and SRH to pull out. RR kept going for him but CSK finally managed to outbid them and picked him for INR 14 crores.

#1 Ishan Kishan (MI)

Ishan Kishan was a hot-favorite heading into the auctions. He is a maverick who can change the course of a game singlehandedly. To add to the fact that he can open, bat in the middle-order, and even keep, makes him an exciting prospect. It came as no surprise that he ended up winning the most expensive bid in the mega auctions. MI waded off challenge from SRH, GT, and PBKS to win the bid for Kishan at INR 15.25 crores.
