Pakistani legend Shahid Afridi has insisted that cricket can ease the political tension between India and Pakistan. The two heavyweights of cricket- India, and Pakistan have not played a single bilateral series since 2012-13. However, there are rumors surrounding a possible T20I series between the two counties later this year.

Shahid Afridi Wants A Series Between India And Pakistan

Since 2008, India and Pakistan have only indulged in one bilateral series. In 2012-13, Pakistan travelled to India for a three- match ODI series and a two-match T20I series. However, the two teams have faced each other multiple times in World Cup, champions trophy and Asian cup games.

In a recent interview, Shahid Afridi stated that it is very important for the two countries to start playing cricket again. He added that cricket can help to improve the relations between the neighbors. Shahid Afridi claimed that Indian players love playing in Pakistan. India last visited Pakistan in 2008 during the Asia cup.

“Cricket between Pakistan and India is very important. Sports should be kept away from politics. Relations between the two countries can improve because of cricket,” Afridi told Cricket Pakistan.

“I have said this before as well, Indian cricketers enjoy coming to Pakistan. You can improve relationships through sports but if you don’t want to improve them then they will remain the same way,” he further said.
