IND vs NZ Match Summary

It has been 17 days since the World Cup started but not even a single close match was seen, everyone was expecting a close contest from the India vs New Zealand match.

Batting first, New Zealand somehow managed to score 273 in which Daryl Mitchell played a brilliant inning of 130 runs, Shami took 5 wickets for India.

The Indians made a strong start to chase the target, but India’s problems started when one by one set batters walked back to the pavilion.

But like always, Kohli remained consistent on the crease and once again living up to his Chase Master tag, he played a strong knock of 95 runs and brought India closer to victory, Jadeja also played an important inning of unbeaten 39 runs.

India break World Cup victory drought against New Zealand

India has ended the 20-year winning drought against the Blackcaps by defeating New Zealand in the match 21 of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in Dharamsala.

Shami’s 5 wickets, Kohli’s smoky knock of 95 runs, Jadeja’s presuure releasing 39 run knock became the formula for India’s victory.

India last won against New Zealand in the 2003 World Cup, but suffered a 2019 World Cup semi-final defeat, which they avenged today.

Kohli and Sachin’s century record

India needed 5 runs to win and Kohli also needed 5 runs to equal the 49 centuries record of Sachin Tendulkar.

The run-machine tried to clear the fence but was caught near the boundary due to which he missed equalling Sachin’s record by just 5 runs, although India still has 4 matches left in the World League stage, and according to the way the Indian team is playing, it is almost certain that they will reach the semi-finals. And with kind of form Kohli is in, he will soon not only equals Sachin’s record but also has the potential to break the record.
