Ravichandran Ashwin, popularly known as Ash by his teammates was born in Madras, Tamil Nadu on 17 September 1986. R. Ashwin is an Indian right-arm off-break bowler who is also an effective batter in the lower middle order for the team. Ashwin has been a crucial member of the Indian Test squad for almost a decade. Ashwin is the second most successful bowler of India in the history of Test Cricket. Presently, R. Ashwin is the Number 1 test cricket bowler in the world. Ravichandran Ashwin started off playing cricket at the age of 9 years. He started off as a batter. At the age of 14 years, Ashwin got injured that caused some ligament tear in his bones. Ravi Ashwin started off his domestic career at the age of 19 years while playing for Tamil Nadu. Ashwin was picked up in the squad in 2006 and he made an

instant impact that he was appointed as the captain of the domestic tea, in the next season.

In his career, Ravichandran Ashwin has played 140 first-class matches and taken 672 wickets with 49 five-wicket hauls in his name. He has also scored 4756 runs in the first-class cricket.

Ravichandran Ashwin made his International debut in an ODI against Sri Lanka in June, 2010. He took 2 wickets in the match and also scored 38 runs. However, India lost the match.
