Ravichandran Ashwin creates history, becomes 2nd Indian bowler after Anil Kumble to achieve incredible feat

Ravichandran Ashwin 500 Test Wickets

Ravichandran Ashwin 500 Test wickets: Ravichandran Ashwin created history by becoming the second Indian after Anil Kumble to claim 500 wickets in test cricket.

The right-arm off spinner achieved this milestone by dismissing – in the 14th over of the third against England at Rajkot. Ashwin provided India a breakthrough by removing Zak Crawley on 15 in the first innings of England innings after India posted 445 in their first innings.

With this achievement, Ashwin became the second fasted after Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan and ninth overall to touch the 500 test wickets mark.

Muttiah Muralitharan is the highest wicket taker in test cricket with 800 wickets in 133 matches, followed by the late Shane Warne with 708 in 145 matches and James Anderson, who is still active in red-ball cricket at 695 in 185 matches, and soon will cross the great Shane Warne.

Anil Kumble is the fourth highest wicket-taker in the list with 619 wickets in 132 games. While Ravi Ashwin, who joined the list as ninth bowler to reach the milestone, completed the achievement in his 98th test match.

Ashwin to cross Kumble to become highest wicket-taker at home

The astounding 500 test wickets accomplishment has already won Ashwin a spot among cricket’s all-time greats, but the off spinner is not only limiting himself to that record; he is also seeking the record for most wickets taken at home.

Ashwin currently has 347 wickets at home, three short of Anil Kumble’s record of 350.

Apart from that, Ashwin is currently only three wickets away from reaching the 400-wicket mark in Asian tests.

Muttiah Muralitharan leads this list again with 493 wickets.
