Asia Cup 2023 Pakistan Strengths and Weaknesses

Pakistan is one team that continues to shock and awe even in this day and age. They remain one of the most unpredictable sides in world cricket. It is to their credit that no team in the world can take them lightly. Pakistan finished as the runners-up in both Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup last year. They qualified for the finals in a manner only known to them. Pakistan start as one of the strongest contenders for this year’s Asia Cup to be played in the ODI format. We perform their SWOT analysis ahead of the Asia Cup.

# Pakistan Strength in Asia Cup 2023:

The team boasts of a settled core with players well aware of their limitations. In Babar Azam, they have arguably one of the finest ODI batters. His consistency is the fulcrum around which Pakistan build their innings. They have the likes of Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Rizwan to provide the enterprise.

Pakistan’s strongest suit though continues to remain its bowling. Shaheen Shah Afridi is back to prime fitness and he showed how lethal he can be in ‘The Hundred’. Naseem Shah has grown in confidence in the past 12-18 months. Add Haris Rauf to the mix and they already have a lethal bowling group.

Faheem Ashraf’s inclusion adds an edge to the seam bowling allrounder department. Mohammad Nawaz will fill in the spin allrounder’s role. But it will be Shadab Khan who will remain the key link for Pakistan in the tournament.

# Pakistan Weakness in Asia Cup 2023:

Despite the presence of many utility players in the side, Pakistan continues to stay reliant on Babar Azam in the batting department. They need to come up with a plan B in case their captain fails. Pakistan’s middle order does give the impression of being soft. It is another area of concern for the co-hosts in the tournament.

# Pakistan Opportunity in Asia Cup 2023:

Pakistan for all their skills and mercurial ability to blast off opponents on their day haven’t exactly dominated the Asia Cup. They have just won two editions of the tournament so far. Pakistan first won in 2000 and had to wait for 12 years to add to their cabinet. This year presents them with an opportunity to add to the silverware.

# Pakistan Threat at Asia Cup 2023:

It is the age-old problem of Pakistan that might prove to be their undoing. They have not been favourites for a competition in a long while but they start as one this time around. Pakistan plays their best cricket when pushed to a corner. How they will respond to the tag of being favourites will determine their run in the tournament.

# Pakistans Expectations at Asia Cup 2023:

Considering the depth of the squad and the talent at their disposal, Pakistan should easily make it to the finals of the Asia Cup. Anything less than that will mean a tournament gone wrong!
