MI vs DC Highlights: Mumbai Indians finally opened their account in IPL 2024 after beating the Delhi Capitals by 29 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.

The high-scoring bonanza saw Mumbai post a massive 234 in 20 overs, thanks to early exploits by ex-skipper Rohit Sharma, and finishing wizardry from Tim David and Romario Shepherd.

Chasing a target of 235, Delhi, despite a crumbling start, managed to give a tough fight to Mumbai, and reached 205 to minimize the gap.

Stubbs scored the most runs with the bat for Capitals in the game with a 25-ball 71, but it wasn’t enough to drive Delhi home.

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan gave Mumbai Indians the ideal start they needed after losing first 3 games.

Both played nearly flawless cricket in the powerplay and added 75 runs.

Former skipper, who was hitting boundaries for fun at Wankhede faced Axar Patel’s challenge in the seventh over of the game.

The left-arm spinner trapped Sharma in his perfect length deliveries mixed with variations and got rid off him on the last ball of the over after 3 dots.

Rohit missed his fifty by a single run but became the first Indian to hit 1500-plus boundaries in T20 cricket during his knock.

Suryakumar Yadav, who is returning to competitive cricket after 4 months due to sports hernia surgery, walked back to pavilion with a duck.

Ishan Kishan too left the crease after a good start of 42, while Tilak Varma failed to create an impact with the bat.

Skipper Hardik Pandya opted for the anchor role then and asked Tim David to accelerate. A responsible partnership of 60 runs between them took Mumbai to 181 in 18 overs before Pandya was dismissed for 39.

With Delhi looking to restrict Mumbai to around 200, Romario Shepherd came to crease and changed the whole momentum towards his side with his quick-fire 10 ball-39*, while Tim’s 45 off 21 guided Indians to 234.

MI vs DC, Match 20: Delhi Capitals to chase 235 in 20 overs

Delhi, in reply, faced a shock after losing their hard-hitting batter David Warner early. With Mitchell Marsh unavailable today, Abhishek Porel came at no.3.

Shaw led the partnership and completed his fifty in no time, while Porel also tried to settle himself on the crease. Things were looking in control for DC with 110 for 1 in 12.3 overs.

A perfect yorker by modern day great Jasprit Bumrah ended the game of good looking Prithvi Shaw. He played a solid knock of 66 in 40.

Abhishek Porel joined the list of not playing a big knock after a start as he was out for 41.

All the eyes were on Rishabh Pant, who usually takes time to settle on crease on first then exploit, but he had to play an opposite game and lost his wicket in the process.

Triston Stubbs, however, were enjoying at Wankhede and smashing every Mumbai bowler except Bumrah.

Stubbs knock of unbeaten 71 in 25 balls went in vain as Delhi lost the game by 29 runs.

The experienced Bumrah gave only 22 in his 4 overs, which helped MI to remain in game; if not, the story could have been different.
