Kapil Dev: The Highs and Lows Of India’s Greatest All-Rounder

Kapil Dev is the greatest Indian allrounder of all time! He was part of the quartet of greatest all-rounders to have played the game. His competition with Imran Khan, Ian Botham, and Richard Chadlee was legendary. He was a captain who helped an entire nation to dream. Kapil Dev made the dream of billion Indians come true (World Cup win in 1983).
He was the first Indian captain to win the World Cup and that history can never be changed. His knock of 175 is legendary! A record of 434 Test Wickets, 4 sixes in one over in a Test Match, Dev has done everything.

The rise of the legend!

India was a land of spinners until Kapil Dev arrived. Kapil Dev made Indian fast bowling glamorous. His swing and his Yorkers were too hot to handle for all batsmen. His huge sixes were the stuff of legends!

Record-breaking Achievements:

He bowled with a half-fit leg to grab a 5-wicket haul and win India a Test in Melbourne in 1981. Nobody gave India a chance when they participated in the 1983 World Cup
India had just won 1 game out of 8 World Cup matches before the 1983 World Cup.
But Kapil Dev inspired his team to believe in them and do something special.

Personal milestones:

His knock of 175* against Zimbabwe in the World Cup remains one of the greatest ODI innings of all-time. He led India to a miraculous World Cup final win against defending champions West Indies to make history. Kapil Dev was regarded as India’s greatest captain and the best player who ever played for India! Dev broke Richard Hadlee’s record in 1994 and went on to become the highest wicket-taker of all time (434 Test wickets)

Lows:

Dev took almost two years to break the record of Hadlee (431 wickets), people called this a selfish act. Kapil Dev broke down on national television when he was accused of match-fixing. Dev started a rebel league called Indian Cricket League (ICL) in 2007 but after 3 years the league was banned

India’s finest all-rounder:

Kapil Dev made his debut in 1978, it has been 43 years since and India still hasn’t got another all-rounder like him. And we don’t think it will be possible for us to get a player like Dev was only one and there can’t be anyone else like him
