IPL captaincy is a demanding job. It takes a lot out of a player captaining a franchise. There have not been many players who have done this job with elan. They have often succumbed to the pressures of franchise owners and fans’ expectations. But there have been a select few captains who have stood out.

#5 MS Dhoni (58.11%)

MS Dhoni is widely regarded as the best captain in the IPL. He led the Chennai Super Kings to 3 IPL titles (2010, 2011, and 2018). He led the Rising Pune Supergiants in one season (2017). Dhoni has captained 188 games winning 110 out of them. His winning percentage stands at 58.11

#4 Cameron White (58.33%)

Cameron White was one of the most fearsome T20 players in world cricket. He took over the captaincy duties of Deccan Chargers mid-season in IPL 2012. In the next season, he captained the Sunrisers Hyderabad side. White captained in 12 games, he led the team to 7 wins. He boasts a success percentage of 58.33.

#3 Sachin Tendulkar (58.82%)

Sachin Tendulkar makes a surprising entry at number 3 in this list. He captained the Mumbai Indians in a total of 51 games and he led MI to victory in 30 of those matches. The Mumbai Indians reached their first IPL final under Tendulkar’s captaincy in 2010. His winning percentage is 58.82

#2 Steve Smith (59.52%)

Steve Smith has captained Rajasthan Royals largely in the IPL. He led Rising Pune Supergiant’s campaign in IPL 2016. Smith took the RPG to finals in that season. He has captained a total of 42 games winning 25 out of them. His winning percentage is 59.52. Smith ranks 2nd in this list and it is surely a surprise.

#1 Rohit Sharma (60.34%)

Rohit Sharma is arguably one of the best skippers in the IPL. Sharma has led MI to a record 5 IPL title wins (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020). He has transformed the Mumbai Indians’ side into a world-beating one. Sharma has led MI in 116 IPL games bagging 70 wins along the way. His success percentage is a massive 60.34. He tops the list!
