IPL 2024 Week 1 Recap:

CSK

Rachin Ravindra: The young phenom, who had a brilliant outing during the ODI World Cup last year, was bought by CSK in the IPL mini auction in 2024, and he validated the franchise’s choice with his quick-fire knock of 37 off 15 that set the tone for CSK in the chase.

Mustafizur Rahman: The senior Bangladeshi left-arm bowler, who had once seen Dhoni’s rare side of anger, made his entry in Dhoni’s CSK with a bang. From dismissing RCB’s set openers to winning player of the match foFOR.is 4-wicket haul, fizz truly dominates the game.

Shivam Dube: Dube carried over outstanding play from the previous season, leading his team to victory with his 28-ball 34 in season opener at Chepauk.

RCB

Anuj Rawat: The 24-year-old Rawat stood tall when his side needed his contribution the most and struck 48 at a strike-rate of 192. Rawat is going to be the player to watch out for the entire season.

Dinesh Karthik: Some had already wrote him off from cricket, but the veteran wicketkeeper proved everyone wrong by rescuing his side in the team’s first game with an unbeaten 26-ball 38.

PBKS

Sam Curran: Punjab was on the verge of repeating their most famous script of losing the game after a good start, but Curran prevented that with his crackling 47-ball 63.

Liam Livingstone: Livingstone started exactly from where he left last season and played a promising knock of unbeaten 38 in 21 balls to drive his side home against DC.

DC

Abhishek Porel: Bengal’s Porel played 4 games last season for Delhi and scored only 33, while coming as an impact player in Delhi’s first game this edition, he scored a 10-ball 32 to take Delhi to 174 in 20 overs.

Kuldeep Yadav: India’s premium spinner continued his best form in the IPL too and bowled a spell of 4-0-20-2 to keep his side in the game against Punjab Kings at Mullanpur, Chandigarh. Kuldeep will probably stay in the top five of the purple cap competition this season.

KKR

Andre Russell: The six-hitting machine, who remained silent for most of the games last year, started his 2024 campaign on a high note and rocked the opponent by smashing 7 sixes during his unbelievable 25-ball 64* knock. With form on Russell’s side, the opponent will need to make a good strategy to get rid of him.

Harshit Rana: The over aggressiveness of Rana fined him 60 percent of match fees. Defending 209, Rana provided KKR with his first breakthrough by removing good-looking Mayank Agarwal for 32, but his flying kiss sendoff celebration was rude.

Shreyas Iyer once again went to Harshit for the last over of the game to defend 13 against the hard-hitting Heinrich Klassen, who struck a maximum of first ball, but the 22-year-old Rana, held his calm to dismiss Shahbaz Ahmed first and then Klassen to hand KKR a win.

SRH

Heinrich Klassen: The swashbuckling South African batter almost shocked the KKR side with his 63 off 29. Klassen has showed his potential, and he will likely remain in the top-5 of most sixes list this season.

T Natrajan: SRH is lucky to have 2-time purple cap winner Bhuvneshwar Kumar and the left-arm quicker Natrajan in their side. Natrajan has started off his 2024 campaign on a solid note with 4-0-32-3.

RR

Sanju Samson: Samson and his love affairs with the season openers continued this time too as the skipper of Rajasthan played a knock of 82 not out against Lucknow. Samson is likely to be inside the top-5 in orange cap race for most of the season.

LSG

No one,

Well, Lucknow scored 173 while chasing the target of 194 against Rajasthan. Their skipper, KL Rahul (58), played in his usual way of slow strike-rate that put the pressure on other batters.

Nicholas Pooran showed some signs of fightback with a 41-ball 64, but it wasn’t enough to help his side win the game.

GT

Sai Sudharsan: Another young talent, who won the Player of the match in team’s first match in IPL 2024, is set to exploit in this year’s cash-rich league event.

Rashid Khan: Khan is a magician, no matter the opponent batters are new on crease or are already set, all face tough times against this Afghani spinner. Khan will likely stay in purple cap’s contention.

Mohit Sharma:  Sharma is a king of variation, his slow balls during death overs is a far better story than titanic.

MI

Mumbai disappoints the most in the first week of Indian Premier League 2024.

Rohit Sharma played a knock of 43 off 29, but once again failed to make it big and left his side in trouble.

Naman Dhir: The new talent impressed many with his style of play. He, however, only managed to hit 20 in 10. But the kind of shots he played with elegance, which included 3 fours and a maximum, demonstrated his ability to perform.
