Meanwhile, despite winning the toss and opting to bat first, Sri Lanka put themselves in trouble after dropping their top-order easily as the scoreboard displayed 29/4 in the 9th over it before losing the majority of their unit for 60 runs. Dasun Shanaka, the captain, then took up the matter and stormed after the Indian bowling attack. He scored an unbroken 74 off 38 balls, featuring 9 boundaries and 2 6’s at a strike rate of 194.7, and was part of an 86-run partnership alongside Chamika Karunaratne (12*) as the Lankans achieved a decent number of 146/5 off their 20 overs.
In response, India lost skipper Rohit Sharma for 5 runs in the 2nd again before Shreyas Iyer & Sanju Samson took control with a 45-run partnership for the 2nd wicket. Having lost Samson, Hooda, and Venkatesh Iyer on either extreme, Iyer soldiered forward from one extreme.
