PAK vs SA Highlights

Pakistan faced another dent to their world cup semi-final hopes after facing a one-wicket loss to South Africa at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday.

In arguably the do or die game for Pakistan, their bowlers did good job by keeping the in-form South African players quiet and providing breakthrough at regular intervals, but a soothing knock of 91 from Markram and a pressure soaking 7* at crucial stage helped South Africa win the game

Earlier, Babar Azam’s 50 and Saud Shakeel’s 52 guided Pakistan to a respectable score of 270.

Opting to bat, Pakistan lost their two wickets early, but a partnership between Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan puts Pakistan back in the game.

Their partnership, however, didn’t last for long as Rizwan walked back to pavilion after scoring 31.

The men in green faced a dent to their hopes to go past 300 after losing Iftikhar Ahmed (21) and Babar Azam (50).

An 84-run stand between Saud Shakeel (52) and Shadab Khan (43) brought Pakistan back in the game, and riding high on their performances, they posted 270 on board.

Tabraiz Shamsi starred with the ball for South Africa with 4 wickets.

PAK vs SA Highlights: South Africa to chase 271 in 50 overs

South Africa, in reply, lost the top-run scorer in the World Cup so far, Quinton de Kock (24) early.

The same was the story with the South African batters like Pakistan’s as their batters also failed to convert their starts.

Aiden Markram, however, stands tall above all odds and went on to score a brilliant 91 under pressure, he missed his century by 9 runs, and was out when his side still need 21 to win.

There were 52 balls left in the game, which gave Lungi Ngidi and Keshav Maharaj a chance to settle and score a run with ease.

Ngidi lost his wicket when his side still needed 11, but a sensible 7* from Maharaj and 4* from Shamsi guided South Africa to victory.

South Africa reached the top spot on the points table with this win, while Pakistan’s chances to qualify for semis now looking dull after fourth straight loss.
