Most Test 50s Among Active Indian Batsmen

Indian pitches were known for run-making, especially until 2015. It was post this phase that the pitches started favouring the bowlers largely. The conditions became tough for batters to notch high scores. Hence the dip in run-scoring graphs for most Indian batters. The batsmen though have worked their way to match-defining scores. Let us look at Most Test 50s Among Active Indian Batsmen in detail.

We look at active Indian batters with the most Test fifties:

#8 Rishabh Pant – 16

His first runs in Test cricket came off a six in England in 2018. Rishabh Pant is the only wicketkeeper to score Test centuries in India, England, Australia, and South Africa. He played a stellar role in India’s series wins in Australia in 2020-21 and against England in the home series. Pant has scored 5 centuries and 11 fifties in Tests so far. He has a total of 16+ plus scores in Tests.

#7 Ravichandran Ashwin – 18

He is one of India’s finest all-rounders in Tests. Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the few players who has taken 450+ wickets and scored over 3,000 Test runs. He has scored 5 Test centuries (4 home and 1 away) in 89 Tests. Ashwin has also scored 13 fifties totalling 18 fifty-plus scores in Tests.

#6 KL Rahul – 20

He is one of the most talented batsmen in world cricket. But KL Rahul hasn’t completely translated his potential into numbers in Test cricket. For a batsman who has scored centuries in England, South Africa, and Australia, his Test credentials don’t look promising. He has scored 7 hundreds and 13 fifties notching up 20 scores in excess of fifty in Tests.

#5 Ravindra Jadeja – 21

He is a vastly improves batsman since 2018. Ravindra Jadeja is one of the few Indians to have scored 3 triple centuries in domestic cricket. He has scored 3 centuries and 18 fifties in 61 Tests so far. Jadeja’s 21 scores in excess of 50 gives him the number 5 spot on this list.

#4 Rohit Sharma – 23

He is arguably India’s finest Test batsman at this moment. Rohit Sharma has been the world’s best Test opener since 2019. He had middling returns as a Test batsman before he became an opener. There has been no stopping Sharma ever since. He has scored a total of 9 centuries and 14 fifties in Tests. Sharma’s 23 scores of fifty-plus is fourth among active Indian batters.

#3 Ajinkya Rahane – 37

He was one of India’s main pillars of batting post the Fab-4 generation. Ajinkya Rahane has had a difficult couple of seasons lately. He is out of the reckoning for a while now. But one can’t forget his crucial contributions to India’s glorious run in Tests. He has scored 12 centuries and 25 fifties in this format. Rahane has 37 scores of 50 plus in Tests.

#2 Cheteshwar Pujara – 53

He fought his way back into the format on the back of a strong showing in county cricket. Cheteshwar Pujara has been one of India’s finest and is all set to play his 100th Test match. He has raked up 19 Test centuries and 34 fifties in Tests. Pujara’s 53 scores of fifty-plus make him a close second on this list.

#1 Virat Kohli – 55

He continues to remain India’s numero uno batter in Test cricket. Virat Kohli has one of the greatest conversion rates in Test cricket. He has scored 27 hundreds and 28 fifties in Tests. His last Test century came in November 2019. Kohli will be itching to add more to his centuries tally. He has a total of 55 fifty-plus scores in Tests making him the topper of this list.
