MCA Honors for Historic Gabba win: At the annual Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) Awards held on Friday at the BKC Club in Mumbai, cricket players Shardul Thakur and Ajinkya Rahane from India as well as former head coach Ravi Shastri were honored.

They were a member of the Indian team that won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2020–21 by defeating Australia during the four-match Test series in Brisbane at the legendary “The Gabba” stadium.

The trio received recognition for their outstanding performance in the Gabba Test. A four-match Test series that saw India overcome Australia to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2020–21.

What Happened in that Final Test match at Gabba

In Brisbane, no side had ever amassed 329 points to win a Test match and India managed to break the record and chase the total on the fifth day. India was in a very challenging position because they were hampered by injuries and had 328 runs to chase.

For India to continue as the current series champions, a draw was sufficient. However, India came out with a very different attitude on the last day of the last Test.

India’s Dominance on the final day of the test match

Courageous performances courageous performances led by Shubman Gill (91), Rishabh Pant (89*), and Cheteshwar Pujara (56). By scoring 67 and 2 with the bat and taking 3/94 and 4/61 with the ball, Shardul Thakur had a remarkable all-around effort.

With this amazing performance on the final day of the test match. India won the match and claimed the series 2-1 to lift the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21.

Why Rahane was the skipper and why not Virat Kohli?

Rahane scored 37 and 24, and he served as the team’s captain in Virat Kohli’s absence. India’s head coach during this historic series was Ravi Shastri. Notably, India will defend the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in a four-match series at home starting on February 9. Which also decides the finalist for the World Test Championship 2023.

So if Australia wins it will be Australia vs South Africa in the final of the World Test Championship. Or if India wins or at least draws the series then it will be India vs Australia in the World Test Championship.

Must win series for India in February against Australia

So this February India at any cost must win or draw the four-match Border Gavaskar Trophy in order to play the final of the World Test Championship.
