Shubman Gill stole the show on day 3 at Vizag to put India on a driving seat in the second test match against England.

India started the day with 2 big disappointments, as skipper Rohit Sharma and first innings centurion Yashaswi Jaiswal, went back to pavilion in the first 10 minutes of play on Sunday.

But a fight back by Shubman Gill (104) and some contributions by Shreyas Iyer (29), Axar Patel (45), India managed to put 255 runs on board in the second innings and gave England a tough target of 399 to win the second test.

IND vs ENG 2nd Test, Day 3 Update: Highest 4th innings successful run-chase in India

Not long ago, England chased down a 378-run target in the fourth innings of a test match against India.

The only hitch was that the English team achieved the mission while playing at home. However, now that they are in India, the ball will turn significantly, making it difficult to reach the goal.

England found themselves in a similar predicament during their 2016 tour of India, when they were challenged to chase down 405 in the fourth innings in Vizag, but they failed miserably and were bowled out for 158 under Alastair Cook.

The highest successful run-chase in fourth innings in India was achieved by the Indian side itself when they reached the target of 387 in fourth innings of the Chennai test in 2008 against England.

IND vs ENG 3rd Test, Day 3 Update: Shubman Gill ends test century drought

Shubman has been having a tough time lately in Test cricket; his last century was in March 2023 against Australia at Ahmedabad.

The century came at a time when India’s top order crashed in the second innings. Rohit Sharma and the in-form Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to give India some momentum.

Shreyas Iyer was playing well at 29 but a loose short and a brilliant catch by England skipper Ben Stokes ended his innings.

Axar Patel played a handy knock with the bat with 45 as India posted 255 runs in their second innings.
