SriLanka’s Kusal Perera (Happy Birthday Kusal Perera) is celebrating his 32nd birthday today.
Perera was born on August 17, 1990, in Kalubowila, Sri Lanka, and is known for his destructive batting and excellent presence of mind on the field.
During his international career so far, he has scored 5,787 runs (test+ODI+T20 combined), including 8 centuries and 34 half-centuries, and has played an important role in guiding Sri Lanka to many important matches.
Perera is a part of team Sri Lanka in all formats of the game and is a key player on his side as he reliable middle-order batter and soaked the pressure very well if the openers failed to give good starts.
How He Started in International Cricket?
Making his international debut against Australia in 2013. Perera in no time became one of the best batters to come out of Sri Lanka among the current generation. He has already spent around eight to nine years playing for the Sri Lankan national team.
Talking about one of his fine innings, when Sri Lanka recorded a win against a strong South African side at their home.
In the 1st test between Sri Lanka and South Africa in Durban in 2019. Sri Lanka were 44 behind after both teams played their 1st innings, with the hosts bowled out for 235 and in reply Sri Lanka only able to score 191. Perera scored the most runs amongst Sri Lankan batters (51).
Sri Lankan bowlers then did great job by restricting South Africa to 259, but the task even after dismissing them under 260 were to chase 304 runs in fourth innings.
The visitors started dreary and lost couple of wickets in quick succession, Sri Lanka lost half of their side at 110, although Kusal Perera and Dhananjaya de Silva provided some hopes by adding 110 runs for the sixth before de Silva walked back after scoring 48, and as soon as de Silva gone, they lost another 3 wickets in the span of 16 runs.
Sri Lanka were at 226 for 9 and 78 runs behind the victory, with only Kusal Perera the last designated batter left at crease alongside a tailander.
But, Perera did the unthinkable as he not just played an impressive knock of unbeaten 153 but also handed her team an unimaginable victory by a wicket.
The southpaw represented Sri Lanka so far in 22 Tests, 107 ODIs and 60 T20Is. He smashed 1171 runs in test cricket, 3071 runs in one-day internationals and 1539 in the T20Is.
