Younis Khan Resign As Pakistan’s Batting Coach Ahead Of England Tour

Former Pakistan cricketer Younis Khan has resigned as the national team’s batting coach. He was appointed to the role in November of last year and is under contract till the T20 World Cup in 2022. But, after only seven months, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Younis have chosen to separate ways. Younis Khan quits as Pakistan batting coach days before team’s tour to England.

Younis Khan’s first assignment as captain was a visit to New Zealand, where Pakistan lost both Tests. They then defeated South Africa at home before defeating the same squad at home. Younis’ most recent duty with the squad was the Zimbabwe tour, from which Pakistan returned successfully. With the departure of the 43-year-old, the club will depart for the United Kingdom on June 25 without a batting coach. Younis Khan quits as Pakistan batting coach.

The board, on the other side, plans to select a new coach by the period of West Indies tour begins. Pakistan’s tour of England will finish on July 20, after which they will head to the West Indies for five T20Is and two Tests.

Younis Khan was praised for his effort to the team by PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan. He also hoped that the experienced cricketer will continue to help Pakistan cricket in the future. Wasim further confirmed in his statement that the two parties regretfully agreed to split ways, indicating that PCB and Younis did not agree on several off-field issues.

“It is sad to lose an expert of the stature and experience of Younis Khan. Following a series of discussions, we both have reluctantly but mutually and amicably agreed that it was time to move in different directions. I want to thank Younis Khan for his contributions during his short stint as the Pakistan men’s national cricket team’s batting coach and hope he will remain available to assist the PCB by sharing his vast knowledge with the emerging cricketers,” he said according to the press release from PCB.

PCB and Younis Khan both refused to discuss on the reasons for the latter’s resignation as the batting coach ahead of two significant overseas tours.
