The appointment of Sourav Ganguly as the new Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president was welcomed by Farokh Engineer. Meanwhile, he lashed out at the Indian selectors and the now-defunct Committee of Administrators (CoA).
Engineer also felt that the BCCI CoA “were on a honeymoon” during their 3-year tenure. Engineer also called the MSK Prasad-led panel “a Mickey Mouse selection committee.”
Farokh Engineer, the former wicket-keeper of India, tore into the BCCI and the now-defunct Committee of Administrators (CoA) for the way they handled the affairs after taking charge.
Engineer has played for 46 Tests and 5 ODIs for India, and he welcomed the appointment of former captain Sourav Ganguly as the new BCCI president as according to him, the CoA members had no clue how to run the Indian cricket board.
The Times of India quoted him as saying, “It is about time we had a cricketer who ran the board, because the CoA, in my opinion, were a complete waste of time. He (Sourav Ganguly) was a dashing player, a captain who took bold decisions and I hope he does the same thing as board president.”
Engineer, added, “I read the other day that each one of them has pocketed Rs 3.50 crore. It’s criminal. Plus I believe they got paid thousands and thousands for attending meetings and all, I feel they were on a honeymoon. The honeymoon is over.”
He claimed he saw the selectors fetching cups of tea for India captain Virat Kohli’s wife, Anushka Sharma, during the 2019 World Cup in England.
