Top 5-Highest T20I Strike Rates In India

Highest T20I strike rates in India: The inaugural T20 World Cup win opened the floodgates for T20 cricket. India the champions in the first edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007 went on to play their first home game post the mega win. Batsmen love playing on Indian wickets:

Indian wickets have always favoured stroke-making. True wickets for white ball games coupled with short boundaries have seen batsmen making merry. Batsmen have registered tall scores even in the shortest format at a great rate too. A few of the batters have scored at a breakneck speed coupled with solid consistency.

We look at the top 5 list of highest T20I strike rates in India:

[Qualification – 500 runs]

#5 Hardik Pandya T20I Strike Rate – 136.79

The Gujarat Titans skipper has enjoyed a new lease of life after a serious injury. He led GT to a title win in just their first season. The captaincy chapter has added another dimension to Pandya’s game. The hard-hitting allrounder now dons the role of a finisher with aplomb. He has played 40 T20Is in India scoring 554 runs in 31 innings. The emphasis on him has always been to strike them big in the final overs. Pandya’s strike rate of 136.79 might not appear startling but his impact surely goes beyond numbers.

#4 Shreyas Iyer T20I Strike Rate – 139.43

He is one of India’s best players of spin. Shreyas Iyer has carved a special niche for himself across all formats. The middle-order batter is India’s top bet against spinners in the middle overs. He wastes precious little time in taking down spin of all kinds. Iyer has scored 739 runs in 35 T20Is so far at an impressive strike rate of 139.43. For a batter who mainly mans the middle overs duties, his strike rate is quite impressive.

#3 Rohit Sharma T20I strike rate– 144.12

He has an unenviable record in T20Is, especially in India. Rohit Sharma has three T20I centuries at home. He played with a certain template until the 2021 T20 World Cup. Sharma preferred to start slow, build, and then go berserk in the end overs. He changed his game to suit the modern T20 needs. Sharma though has kept pace with the modern game. He strikes at 144.12 in 55 T20Is scoring 1,411 runs.

#2 Virat Kohli T20I strike rate – 148.27

He redefined the art of T20I batting with methodical precision. Virat Kohli has maintained the same tempo right throughout even until this day. He has scripted many famous wins even on Indian soil with his sheer determination. Kohli was the player of the tournament in the 2016 T20 World Cup that was played in India. His penchant for securing the games while he is at the crease makes him stand out among T20I mavericks of the current generation. Kohli’s strike rate of 148.27 in 44 games scoring 1,548 runs is simply outstanding.

#1 Suryakumar Yadav T20I strike rate- 170.02

He is undoubtedly the best T20I batsman currently. Suryakumar Yadav in his 2-year career has proven himself across all conditions. He has scored a century in England, New Zealand, and India. SKY put up a stunning display in Australia in the 2022 T20 World Cup capturing the imagination of cricket fans. His ability to marry his high-risk game with consistency makes him a clear standout. SKY’s strike rate of 170.02 is easily the best for batsmen who have scored in excess of 500 T20I runs in India.
