Former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel backs India to win the T20 World Cup for the upcoming edition. India will be looking out to win the world cup since it’s been 8 years without an ICC trophy.
Currently, with recent interactions with author Boria Majumdar, Parthiv Patel mentioned that there is no reason why India cannot win the upcoming World cup. “Without a doubt. I don’t have a single doubt in my mind whether this team can win an ICC tournament or this [England] series. The team has everything in it to win and dominate world cricket for another five to 10 years.” Patel said.
India currently has 2 different squads who can be equally competitive to all the teams in the world. Every player in the squad of the T20 World cup can be a match-winner.
I think we are just an improving unit: Parthiv Patel
Patel said that Indian cricket has improved a lot during these years and they’re getting stronger and stronger. “If you look our [India’s] history, what we were in the 2000s, what we were in 2010s and now where we are. I think we are just an improving unit. So, we will keep on improving and we are going to keep on dominating. My hopes are very high. Though there is a World Cup every year, I feel India can become the world champions, there is no doubt about that. I think this is the right time and right team to do it as well,” he added.
India has suffered a lot in the final stages at ICC. India recently lost the World Test Championship final against New Zealand. Previously, India lost the Final in the 2014 T20 World cup against Sri Lanka, Semi-Finals in 2016 in ODI World Cup. They again lost at T20 World Cup 2018 against West Indies in the semi-finals.
