IND vs WI: Dhawan, Iyer Cleared To Train After Tests Negative For COVID-19

Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer have been approved to train following negative Covid-19 tests. They are scheduled to attend India’s training session in the evening. The pair, together with Ruturaj Gaikwad, Navdeep Saini, and 4 other personnel of staff members, came back positive before India’s ODI series versus the West Indies. They were then isolated and did miss the first game on Sunday (February 6). Dhawan & Iyer Tests Negative For COVID-19.

It should be mentioned that Dhawan & Iyer are now out of the 2nd ODI, which is scheduled for Wednesday (February 9). Their practice session, meantime, has begun at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad, which will host the whole ODI series. They are being closely watched upon by the BCCI medical staff. Gaikwad, on the other hand, remains isolated.

Shreyas and Shikhar are allowed to light training as per the protocol

“Both of them (Shreyas and Shikhar) are allowed to light training as per the protocol. However, the medical team will monitor them before a decision is taken about their availability,” a source in the BCCI.

However, the Rohit Sharma-led team didn’t seem to notice the absences in the first ODI. Upon batting first at the stadium, the West Indies were knocked out for a mere 176. India’s chase was flawless, as they reached the target in just 28 overs and won the match by 6 wickets. The Men in Blue now leading the 3-match ODI series 1-0.

KL Rahul, who has been missing for the 1st match, has joined the team for the 2nd ODI. Mayank Agarwal, his Karnataka teammate, is also available to play. Ishan Kishan batted first with captain Rohit Sharma in the 1st ODI. Meanwhile, vice-captain Rahul is almost certain to start the 2nd game.

“Their (Mayank and Rahul) coming back after quarantine makes our unit stronger. At the end of the day, it is the team management’s call as to who will play or not. We are really happy to have them back,” batter Suryakumar Yadav said on the eve of the second ODI.
