Gill & Mayank’s Tons And Saxena’s Bowling Sink India A

On Friday (November 1), the centuries of Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal, enhanced by Suryakumar Yadav’s 29-ball unbeaten 72 and Jajal Saxena’s seven-wicket haul, led India C to a huge 232-run victory over India A in Ranchi.

After India C opted to bat, Gill walked out with his opening partner Agarwal. The pair put on a 226-run stand together to completely frustrate the bowlers of India A. Agarwal was the more powerful of the two, regularly hitting at over 90, and getting to his century with a fine leg boundary in the 34th over off just 96 deliveries.

From there, Gill picked up the pace and went on to reach his hundred in the same way. Agarwal fell for 120 in his 111-ball effort, hitting 15 boundaries and a six. India A had a forgettable start to the chase, losing three of their top four only for 17 runs on the board, with Ishan Porel claiming two and Dhawal Kulkarni sending Vishnu Vinod back.

With a 54-run partnership, Deevdutt Padikkal and Bhargav Merai offered some resistance for the fourth wicket. Saxena took over from there by claiming all the remaining seven wickets.

In the 30th overs, India A slipped from 74 to 3 to 134, giving C a big win to jump to the top of the points table.

India A was thus knocked out of the tournament winless after 2 games with the other two teams advancing to the final.

Brief scores: India C 366/3 in 50 overs (Shubhman Gill 143, Mayank Agarwal 120, Suryakumar Yadav 72*; R Ashwin 1-57) beat India A 134 all out in 29.5 overs (Bhargav Merai 30, Ishan Kishan 25; Jalaj Saxena 7-41) by 232 runs.
