“Dhawan Needs To Come Strong Before He Comes Under The Scanner For His Run a Ball Approach“ – Sunil Gavaskar

Shikhar Dhawan played an important role in the first T20I match against Bangladesh. But, India still lost the match. However, left-handed batsman Shikhar Dhawan remained the top scorer for Team India in the first T20I by scoring 41 runs off 42 deliveries before getting run out.

According to Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian cricketer, Shikhar Dhawan needs to come strong before he comes under the scanner for his run a ball approach.

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan were the openers of the match. Skipper Rohit Sharma was out in the very first over. After the hitman’s wicket, Dhawan started playing sensibly. The 33-year-old batsman tried his level best to accelerate score, but he finished his innings at the strike rate of 97.62.

Sunil Gavaskar, speaking about this particular inning of Dhawan in an interview, said, “Questions will be raised on Shikhar Dhawan if he doesn’t bat well in the next 2 matches. The team is not going to benefit if you’re scoring 40-45 runs from the same number of balls. He will have to think about this. When players come back after the gap, it does take a lot of time to get back the rhythm.”

Sunil Gavaskar stated that Dhawan has to think that his team won’t benefit if he scores 40 – 45 runs from as many balls. Questions will be raised about his place if he doesn’t bat well in the next two matches. The 70-year-old wants Dhawan to bounce back to his rhythm faster.

The Indian team lost the first T20I against Bangladesh in the three-match series and the second encounter of the series is scheduled to take place in Rajkot on the 7th of November.
