BCB President On Shakib’s Request For Break

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan has strongly objected to Shakib Al Hasan’s proposal for a vacation from international cricket. Shakib’s dedication has been called into doubt by Nazmul, who concerns if he might have desired a similar absence from the IPL if he’d been selected in the 2022 auction. This article let us know BCB President On Shakib’s Request For Break

Bangladesh’s standout all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan initially stated to the BCB that he wishes to play only the limited-overs games for the majority of 2022. Following Bangladesh’s Tests versus South Africa in March – April, he left himself open for the forthcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Unfortunately, as he was not selected by any of the teams, the BCB felt he would’ve been ready for the South Africa Tests.

BCB President Nazmul Hasan responded by saying he was shocked by Shakib’s proposal because the all-rounder had ‘made a promise’ to compete versus South Africa. “It is surprising, to be honest. I don’t know what he is saying now but his last conversation with me was in Chattogram where he said he would play and that’s all I know,” Nazmul said in an Interaction.

“If he (Shakib) is not willing to play please tell us but it becomes difficult if he informs us at the last minute, then it becomes a problem. We made the plan for South Africa keeping him in mind and now when he says things it does hamper our planning. Members of the coaching staff and the team management are not sure what is happening. Would he have said the same thing if he was picked in the IPL? Would he have said that he is mentally exhausted?” Nazmul asked.

Furthermore, Nazmul noted that it is unclear if Shakib is playing the game on the national side or not and that he may be in a mentally disturbed situation. “I think he is mentally disturbed. What I feel is why won’t he enjoy playing against Afghanistan because we had beaten them and if any cricketer is not enjoying the success of his team, then it is a big problem,” he stated.

Shakib was named to Bangladesh’s Test and One-Day International teams, although he was unavailable on Sunday, March 6. However, he stated that he wanted a break, and urged the BCB that he would drop out of the One-Day series so that he could still return with a refreshed state for the  South Africa Test series.

Shakib also ignored the New Zealand Test series the previous month. This was the 3rd time he has stepped away from a series for ‘personal matters.’ He went on leave for the 1st time during Bangladesh’s tour of South Africa during 2017/18, and he missed the Sri Lanka Tests the year before owing to IPL activities with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Shakib has only featured 15 of Bangladesh’s 33 Test matches since 2017, with the explanations for his unavailability being injury, a one-year exile for failing to disclose a questionable attempt, and vacation leaves.
