Bangladesh Series In Doubt As Zimbabwe Suspends All Sporting Events

Following the global destruction caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the countries gradually resumed their bilateral series and schedule. In the same spirit, Bangladesh was slated to go to Zimbabwe for a series that would include one Test, three T20Is, and as many T20Is. According to recent sources, Zimbabwe Cricket was given a major setback when the country’s Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) decided to suspend all sporting activities. And Zimbabwe suspends all sporting events.

Zimbabwe Cricket Suspends All Sporting Activities Due To Rising COVID-19 Cases

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, the SRC implemented the decision on June 13. The Bangladesh series is in doubt with the recent decision. Zimbabwe suspends all sporting events. All public activities in a variety of disciplines have been suspended, according to SRC’s most recent announcement.

“The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) hereby notifies members of the public that pursuant to the statement by the Honourable Vice President of Zimbabwe C.G.D.N Chiwenga, who is also the Minister of Health and Child Care, setting out additional measures to curb a renewed surge in Covid-19 infection rates, ALL sporting activities and events are hereby suspended with effect from Monday, 14th June 2021 until further notice. All national sports associations, clubs, gyms, and related stakeholders should abide by this suspension without exception,” stated Zimbabwe’s Sports and Recreation Commission in a statement.

The BCB and the CEO of Zimbabwe Cricket are enthusiastic about the series

Due to the implementation of the ban, the 2nd four-day cricket match between South Africa’s A-team and Zimbabwe’s home team, which began on June 13 at Harare Sports Club, would be affected. The series was held to prepare the host team for their upcoming match against Bangladesh next month. BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhary, on the other hand, indicated that he spoke with the CEO of ZC and that both sides are hopeful about the same series.

Their government has banned all sports due to corona outbreak. The Zimbabwe Cricket Board has informed us that they are in talks with the government to continue cricket. I spoke to their CEO this morning. He said they were in talks with the government to roll out the series and were optimistic. They are confident with the series,” stated Nizamuddin Chowdhary.
