6 Cricketers Fail BCCI’s New 2-Km Run Fitness Test Ahead Of The Limited-Overs Series Against England

A game of Cricket demands players to be fit since they’ll be playing completely throughout the year and being unfit will have high chances for injuries. No matter who the player is, one has to clear the BCCI’s New 2-Km Run Fitness Test to be on the team.

Indian Captain Virat Kohli once said in the interview that when you go for a catch it’s on you to make it comfortable or difficult, your fitness matters a lot and you can take a catch running towards it in 5 seconds instead of 7 seconds. You can convert 1 and a half runs into 2 runs. This is what makes cricketers best in the game.

Fitness matters and BCCI have been conducting fitness tests now and then to ascertain the fitness levels of players. The team management wants the players to stay fit such that they can give good performances on the field. Earlier, Rohit Sharma game some weight in the lockdown and since he was unfit, BCCI didn’t name in the limited-overs squad against Australia. Rohit worked extremely hard on his fitness and reduced weight at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

6 Players Fails BCCI’s New 2-Km Run Fitness Test

Reports are stating that Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Rahul Tewatia, Nitish Rana, Siddarth Kaul and Jaydev Unadkat failed to pass the test. BCCI introduced the test this week at the NCA in Bengaluru.

The players, who failed to pass the test will be getting one more chance to make a case. If they fail to clear, then their participation in the forthcoming limited-overs series against England will in case they couldn’t pass, then their participation in the upcoming ODIs and T20Is against England will be in doubt.

It is said that as many as 20 players took part in the new fitness test. “Since this is a new type of a fitness test, they will all get a second chance to clear it at a fresh date, after some gap. However, if they fail to clear it, then it puts their selection for the forthcoming white-ball series comprising five T20Is and three ODIs against England at home in doubt,” a source told to TOI.

“In this test, a batsman, wicketkeeper, or a spinner has to complete the two-kilometre distance in eight minutes and 30 seconds, while for a fast bowler, the benchmark is eight minutes and 15 seconds. Six of the players failed to clear these tests. Some players barely managed to complete the run,” the source added. In the coming months, BCCI is aware of the hectic cricket schedule for Team India. Keeping that in mind, BCCI wants the players to be fit.
