Weather Update:
Once again the weather doesn’t look too good for Southampton, expected rain from early afternoon. The weather looked better … now looks even worse.
Welcome To Cricket:
Clear skies in Southampton, with puffy clouds according to ground reports. The players on the outfield are still training. 10 minutes to what the beginning of Day 4 will be, and some live cricket. Pakistan was only able to bat 86 overs over the course of three days, with Rizwan’s resilient 60 * taking them to a respectable result.
First Run Of Day 4:
Mohammad Rizwan vs England! Here we head into the 2nd Test for Day 4. Bowls to Anderson. To retain hit, Rizwan steals one single off the fifth ball of the over. At Southampton, we are done. Broad comes in with three slips in place for the next over.
Rizwan Hits A Four:
Again, for almost the whole, Rizwan shields Naseem Shah steals a run off the fifth ball and keeps strike over for the next one. Taking a few blows to the body when necessary but Rizwan proved to be a wall for bowlers in England. Thick edge to fine leg for a few runs. A report from Rizwan later in the over lofted for fours. Rizwan On Top:
England close in on Rizwan and manage to stop the last ball with a single off. They ‘re going to strike Naseem Shah for a whole Broad over. And survives No 11. Rizwan goes up after every ball, to have a word with him. Rizwan, who ventures into his 70s, smashes Anderson for a four. Rizwan then takes the fifth ball off the strike. PAK 236/9 Against 91.
Pakistan all out for 236:
After a miscued shot goes up in the air, Mohammad Rizwan is caught and Crawley takes a simple catch … The innings of Rizwan end on 72. Pakistan receives 236. England batsmen coming out to start their first innings soon. Pakistan’s innings on Day 4 which last 20 minutes. Today the visitors have added 13 runs from 5.2 overs.
England Innings Begins:
Shaheen Afridi starts proceedings for Pakistan as England starts its second inning. Slip cordon in place for four-men.
Wicket In 1st Over:
0/1 to England. Catch them in the falls. It’s out Burns. Shaheen Afridi crosses over in the first over.
Some Runs:
In the end, England manages to get some runs. But the threat from Abbas and Shaheen is still time. ENG 5/1 to 4.
Stoppage:
Another pause. The culprit rains again this time. Not poor lighting. A tiny mist and the players walk away. Covers arrive. England reaches the pavilion with a score of 7/1 on 5 overs. Nearly one hour play on Day 4 has so far been possible.
Weather Update:
In Southampton, a spell of rain has moved in. Bad light vs rain battle has once again replaced the battle between England and Pakistan.
Long Delay:
And, on Day 4, we get our first long break. Now, almost an hour of washing off. And according to reports, the rain pelting down is now heavy. It is scheduled to take lunch in 5 minutes. So we are guaranteed to have at least another 45 minutes of no cricket. The good news though, is that it is predicted that the weather will clear up later today. So we should take some action-sooner or later.
Second Session:
Just 10.2 overs were bowled on Day 4, before the players rained off. The second session is scheduled to start in another 10 minutes but can the conditions of play recover enough to resume play?
Grim Update:
The rain has grown heavier from the ground, say sources. The heaviest rain in this Test we’ve seen. Well, after all, it doesn’t look like a result will be possible in this Test. The second session is being eaten in now, and we are likely to miss the whole afternoon session due to the weather conditions.
Buckets Of Rain:
The players have returned to their hotels in Southampton with rain bucketing down, local media claim. The ICC Anti-Corruption manager decided with both team members that teams should be able to return to their hotels during team delays to cope with room capacity and social distancing norms. Not bright signs to resume play. Day 4 looks likely to be consumed largely by rain.
Stumps On Day 4:
Today we were put out of our misery earlier than usual. Stumps were named. The rain had stopped but it would have taken more than three hours for the groundsmen to mop up after the deluge and so the day was brought to an early end, is the middle article. Day 4 is over, with England running 229 behind Pakistan’s first-inning score and 1 wicket down.
