David Warner and Travis Head record second highest opening partnership for Australia in ODIs

Highest opening partnership

Australian openers stunned the English bowlers on Tuesday after smashing the ball every part of the stadium to register the second highest opening partnership for Australia in ODI cricket.

David Warner and Travis Head added 269 runs for the first wicket in the third and final match of the ODI series between Australia and England on Tuesday.

Both scored centuries in the process and provided a solid platform for their side to set a big total on board.

Travis Head played a knock of 152 in just 130 balls with the help of sixteen fours and fours sixes. While David Warner struck 106 off 102. His knock included eight fours and two sixes.

Warner was the first one to depart after registering a record. While trying to pull it away of Olly Stone he failed to get the placement and got caught at deep mid-wicket.

The centuries marked as Warner’s 19th in the ODI cricket. While it was Travis Head’s third ODI ton.

Their partnership now recorded as the ninth highest opening partnership in the history of best partnership for first wicket in ODIs.

Interestingly, the highest record for the opening partnership in ODIs for Australia was also set by David Warner and Travis Head in 2017 against Pakistan in Adelaide.

England tour of Australia 2022

This is the third match of the three-match ODI series between Australia and England. The hosts already won the series by claiming success in first two games.

It will be interesting to see if they secure a cleansweep today or not.

Australia first defeated the English side with a comprehensive manner on November 17 by 6 wickets. While they registered an even better win in the second game by defeating them by 72 runs in a 281-run chase game.

Apart from David Warner and Travis Head, Dawid Malan is the only batter, who so far recorded century in this series, having scored 134 in the first ODI, which England lost.

Previously, England outlasted Australia in the T20 series on the same tour by defeating them with a 2-0 margin right before the T20 World Cup 2022.
