Ravi Shastri Backs Aakash Chopra’s Hint For ‘Two IPL Seasons In A Year’

Two IPL Seasons In A Year: Former Team India coach, Ravi Shastri opinioned that the Twenty20 format should never be used for bilateral matches involving international teams and that the hitting approach of cricket should indeed be reserved for the World Cup alone.

When it regards the shortest format of the game, Shastri one of the most accomplished Indian coaches is of the perspective that combining an annual T20 World Cup with franchise cricket is the ideal way to go ahead. He relies on this viewpoint on the desire that spectators have for the shorter format.

“There’s too much bilateral stuff going on in T20 cricket. I’ve said that (before), even when I was the coach of India, I could see it happening in front of my eyes,” said Shastri.

These remarks were made by Shastri only a few days before India’s next T20 series versus South Africa, which would consist of 5 matches.

I don’t remember a single (T20) game in the last 6-7 years as coach of India: Shastri

“It should go the football way, where, in T20 cricket, you just play the World Cup. Bilateral tournaments – no one remembers. And I don’t remember a single (T20) game in the last six-seven years as coach of India, barring the World Cup”, said the former India coach.

Former India opener Akash Chopra made the following statement when asked about the future of the Indian Premier League: “I actually foresee there might be two editions of the IPL in every calendar year. And that’s not too far away.”

“It could be tomorrow – 140 games, split 70-70. In two seasons. You never know. That’s the way it’s going to go. That’s the way it’s developed as a beast of property. And you cannot hide away from that”, Chopra further said.

“You might think that’s overdose, but nothing is overdose in India. I have been sitting outside the bubble, I have been watching people, how they have seen, how they have reviewed these last few months, especially out of Covid. And they are loving every bit of it, and they are almost having withdrawal symptoms”, he concluded.
