India wants to keep up the pace as World Cup preparations pick up

India’s preparations for World Cup

The time when the Indian athletes were preparing for the challenge of playing England on their home soil doesn’t feel like very long ago. But because of the rigorous schedule, it seems like the Indian system is like a train that keeps moving from one station to another without stopping. The Indian squad will next take on the Caribbean team in a T20I series after playing six limited-overs matches in England, followed by an ODI series in the West Indies.

Once more, the T20I series will revolve around evaluating many players in order to choose a strong squad for the T20 WC in Australia. This storyline would begin with the first game at the Brian Lara stadium.

India has done amazingly well to so far avoid contracting the inconsistent disease that has plagued England and the West Indies despite their busy schedule. The think tank has tried to rotate the participants because there are so many games being played. R Ashwin will bear the brunt of the responsibility among the players who are reentering the lineup. Off-spinners must have a sufficient number of arrows in their quiver in order to survive in a time when the shortest format is favored by spinners who bowl quickly in the air and zoom the ball on the stumps.

For the T20 WC, India will also desire some diversity in their pace assault. Therefore, Arshdeep Singh could be given a few chances.

The think tank has attempted to give the batting unit a boost shot in an effort to turbo-charge it after India’s defeat in the T20 WC last year. Rohit Sharma‘s frantic attempt to slug past the finish line while facing David Willey in the second T20I in England best illustrated the idea. The India captain, though, is unable to turn any of his T20I starts in England into significant scores; this is something he hopes to change in the West Indies. The promotion of Rishabh Pant to the top of the English food chain also serves as a sign of the future course the Indian camp intends to follow.

The West Indies, their rivals, will be hoping for a speedy turnaround after losing the ODI series 3-0. Another format that works for their style of play is T20 cricket. In a T20I series earlier in the year, they did defeat England, and they then shut out Bangladesh 2-0.
